Why four computers on one desk is bad

Many people have asked me (non-geeks mostly), “Why do you have four computers on your desk in your room?”

My answer: “Because five is too many.”

But seriously folks, I do have reasons, but this is one reason NOT to try this at home…

Sequel Wars?

Filed under: MoviesJeremy @ 9:50:40 PM Tags: ,

Here I am, it’s Wednesday night and I’m watching my favorite Star Trek movie of all time, “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” on TNN.

And I’m thinking to myself (as if for the first time seeing the order of the characters on the screen: “Star Trek II”) Wow, Sequels generally suck. Could this be the best Sequel of all time?

So, I put together this quick list: The best sequels of all time.

MovieLens

Filed under: MoviesJeremy @ 7:08:07 PM

After yesterday’s blog about the best sequel of all time, some of you were telling me movies which you thought I would enjoy.

I hate to disappoint you, (Most of the movies you suggested, I have seen and I didn’t enjoy them as much as you suggested.)

However, I would like to return the favor (in a more scientific way.)

So I introduce you to MovieLens

Bandwidth Wars

I knew this day would come. When 256 kbits/second were not enough for 7 Geeks under one roof.

Here I am, downloading a 660 MB disk image. (What I would consider a high prioroty download) At at 30% of the batch, my roommates in the East Wing of the GeekBrigade are downloading who-knows-what.

Primary Elections

Filed under: Mindless BanterJeremy @ 7:03:56 PM

As some of you know, I take the political process very seriously (even before I was old enough to vote).

Today, it is the Primary elections in most states.
As I write this text, the polls are closing on the Pacific Coast, so any encouragement to get to the polls would be foolish. However, if you didn’t vote, consider this to be a tacit reproof.

Especially this year.

Especially this time. September 10, 2002.

September 11, 2002The Year After starts now
At the Cubicle Jungle today, probably like cubicle jungles around the country, the leadership decided to commemorate this new Patriot Day, by distributing red-white-and-blue ribbons. I elected not to take one. Here is what resulted:

Say it aint so!

Filed under: PersonalJeremy @ 3:07:54 PM

I just opened one of my many jeremygilby.com E-mail boxes and came to the realization of something very frightening:

In 1992, I graduated from Pennridge High School Perkasie, Pennsylvania.

And I’ve just received my official invitation to my 10-year High School Reunion.

Pray for me.

Finally!

Filed under: TVJeremy @ 9:45:11 PM

My dreams have been answered!

For almost 5 years, I have been begging the gods of Warner Brothers/TNT/Sci-Fi Channel/The-TV-Collective for the Babylon 5 DVD set to hit the stores.

Not some episode-by-episode DVD collection, but a “Season-In-A-Box” Collection.

And this November 5th, the First Season is here!

And yes, I have already pre-ordered.

And yes, I’m a geek.

So sue me!

Macintosh Blues

Its here, the dreaded Macintosh.

The Good News is, I got Yellow Dog Linux installed on it. The bad news is, Yellow Dog does not display in any graphical format. But rather, it displays in command line only. (Not as bad as it sounds, but I do like X, and I wanted to play with Ximian GNOME. I’m still tinkering with it, and it appears to be a known bug to the Linux PPC People.

Mac Workarounds

Yet another update on the iMac Desk Lamp sitting on my primary desk in the Cubicle Jungle.

One might call me obsessed.

Well, the Desk Lamp is more usable now.
I put a real OS on a seperate partition (even though the graphics are still having an issue)
I yanked the foolish one-button Mac Optical Mouse and replaced it with a Kensington Track Ball.

Now I have to find something to replace these “cute” speakers. (They can’t project sound worth the fake plastic they are made with.)

FREE PC!

The Cubicle Jungle was giving away 3-Year Old PCs today, and I was one of the lucky Cubicle Warlords to get one.

  • Pentium 3
  • 450 MHtz
  • 128 MB Ram (Supposedly)

Actually, someone swiped the 128 stick, but fortunatly, I had a spare 32 MB lying around my Geek-O-Sphere.

Now, what to do with this treasure….

Free PC – Update

Well, I solved the Memory Problem, and picked up 128 MB of RAM real cheap.

Now the new Drakh has 192 MB of RAM, an overpowered 56x CD-ROM Drive.

As for the Operating System, see below.

Free PC – Update 2

Well, the computer is officially up and running. There are some sound card problems though, (probably a bad sound card (no big deal, I don’t miss the sound and if I do I have a Sound Card lying around here somewhere.) Ah, Geek Life!
