Eggnog!

“Christmas is the only time to get eggnog before the government takes it back!”
- Homer Simpson
Yes, Eggnog, the Holiday Treat. I always make a point to pick up my first gallon of this stuff on Thanksgiving Eve.

Being that I am the GeekBrigade Bartender, people have often asked what I put in my Eggnog, and how much?

Well, once upon a time, my Dad and I were on a quest to create the most adult eggnog. (In the tradition of Gilby Tasty Adult Beverages). After I moved to Arizona, I perused this further.

You might be surprised as to my results:

Christmas Music

One thing that I jones over come Thanksgiving is good Christmas Music.

And, I’m sorry, but Elvis, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and David Bowie do not do it for me. (though Bing and Bowie doing “Little Drummer Boy” still is kinda cool.)

No, I have my own brand of Christmas Music:

Opera

As you can probably tell from my “About This Site” page, I’m pretty much an iconoclast when it comes to the mainstream broswer(s).

When most people think “Web Browser” they often think “IE” or “internet explorer“.

Me, I think “Which one?”

Well, this is my own personal endoresement of Opera Version 7.

Navigation Goodness

Well, I was tinkering around the lastest wave of new browsers to come out, with my co-worker Keith, and we made an interesting discovery.

In both Opera 7, and the Mozilla, there is a XUL feature called the “Site Navigation Bar”.

Essentially, special code in the HTML of the page enables standardized buttons to appear in the Site Navigation Bar, when activated.

Keith and I did a little exploring and discovered the text of this code, and now, it is a new feature on JeremyGilby.com.

100th Post

Filed under: AdministriviaJeremy @ 9:18:38 AM

As you can tell from the header, this is the 100th post on JeremyGilby.com.

When I reorganized this site on January 20th, after moving the hosting to iPowerWeb, there have been 100 peices of mindless banter displayed here. Slightly more then 2 postings a week. (Even though one day I posted twice.)

I thought I would share a few of the fan favorites, and of course, some of my own.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Filed under: Local,PersonalJeremy @ 3:50:15 PM Tags:

In the spirit of my favorite Christmas Music, a group of us are going to see The Trans-Siberian Orchestra live.

Their Christmas tour has brought them to Tucson, and yes, I already have tickets.

I’ll report on how good/bad the concert was in my next post.

Until then….

TSO: Update

Filed under: ReviewsJeremy @ 8:51:10 AM Tags:

The Trans-Siberian Orchestra put on a pretty good show. I think they were surprised at Tucson’s reaction to their performance. At the same time, I think Tucson was surprised at the performance, and how it was not what people were expecting.

Egads

What does a geek house do when they have no internet access?

Scream, Yell and Complain, that’s what!

At approximately, 9:30 PM MST, the Geek Brigade was without Internet Access.
The Network was up (still could play Rainbow Six) but no Slashdot.org.

As I’m writing this, I think I feel better now.

Geneology Fun

Filed under: PersonalJeremy @ 10:16:43 AM

I had almost forgotten about a long lost domain name I own:

GilbyAssociates.com

I created this domain as a test for one of the products I supported, back in the day. I’m not paying any money for it, so the lack of a monthly bill caused me to neglect it.

Well, I opened the E-mail account to it, for the first time in a year, and after sifting through the waves of spam, I found that GilbyAssociates.com was very popular in the UK

White Christmas

Filed under: Mindless BanterJeremy @ 1:43:26 PM

It has been the longest time since I’ve seen a White Christmas. Even living in PA for 21 years, White Christmases were a rare event.

And now, living in Tucson, they are even more rare.

Some would say, what is the big deal, with having snow on Christmas?

Well, take a look…

Family

Filed under: PersonalJeremy @ 7:40:19 PM

In the days of yore, some time ago, I didn’t quite appreciate how important a family is.

I guess you could blame it on my own personal “Young man’s pride” if you catch my drift. But something happened today which I didn’t expect.

My family came knocking on my proverbial door.

And no one was there to greet them.

And it broke my heart.
