Entry 1: Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Hancock
On this day of strange mixtures of emotions, I was a witness to the blessed event of Matt and Sharon’s wedding.

As most of you know, STS-107 ended with a disaster.
With all the events going on for the past few days, I’ve not been glued to my news sites/channels. But like most blogs out there, I have my two cents.
I recently finished one of Tom Clancy’s earlier works, Red Storm Rising. While this is Clancy’s first vector away from the Jack Ryan/John Clark series, RSR is a powerful and intense book to read.
I enjoied it immensely.

In my job, this situation comes more times then I truely appreciate.
A situation where I have to make a decision. Where I am the subject-matter-expert on a topic, and I’m the most informed to decide, one way or the other.
While this sounds like an ideal position to be in, and a place to get noticed, its not. It is more of a weight that will follow you for the rest of your career. Possibly beyond it.
A decision where either answer brings harm to the company.
Today, I had to make one such decision.

On this day, President Taft signed the proclamation making Arizona the 48th state. This was the first time this kind of moment was documented by a movie camera. The year was 1912.
Thusly, Arizona is officially the last state in the continental 48 states, and the conclusion to the Manifest Destiny of the 1800s.
There is something to say about being the last.
The finishing touch.
The completing stroke.
If there is a Soverign God out there, who controls all borders, why did He choose the Gadsden Purchase to be a part of the United States? (Essentially, the Gadsden Purchase was the latest change to the U.S. Border we know today. Tucson is the largest city in that border.)
Pretty neat, eh?
Oh yeah, by the way, a Christian Martyr is celebrated today too.
There are several reasons why I think this is funny.
Even though I’ve made my own classifications, I admit, I was a Nerd in High School. Actually, I was more of a Dork. (I wasn’t smart enough to be a Nerd.)
So when I was trolling around on Slashdot.org, I the following title caught my eye:
While this article dispells most myths like “Nerds are Unpopular because they are smarter, and naturally something to be jealous of“, it chimmed in with another theme we’re visiting in our Sunday Sermon Series.
Rejection.

I took a few minutes, and updated my resume. The file is now uploaded to my Resume Page:
It has been a while since this has been updated, cause I relized I had to add my Process Excellence Training from 2001.
(If you don’t know what Six Sigma is, this put GE and Motorola back on the Corporate Map.)
Jeremy
Pulled this from BehindTheName.com
JEREMY m English, Biblical (Variant)
Pronounced: JER-e-mee, JER-mee
English form of JEREMIAH, and the form used in some versions of the New Testament.
Oh, and by the way, if ANYONE pronounces my name using the two sylable varient, you will get the polite stare, and some other dumb looks.
GER-mee and GERM-ee do not even generate a response.
Just FYI.

I don’t know what Petroleum Prices are in your neck of the woods, but when I filled my tank this morning, the Low Grade Unleaded Pump was 1.71 a gallon.
Of course, with my 13+ gallon tank, the total sale was $23.00.
Doing some basic math, I’m now paying a little over 7 cents for every mile I drive. (Just in fuel costs)
When the price gets above $2.00 / gal. I think I’ll be walking to work.

Since I’ve been on this name kick, I thought I would add this one as well.
