Soundtracks

Filed under: ReviewsJeremy @ 7:44:30 PM Tags:

One thing I listen for when I’m watching a good movie, is the soundtrack.

I dislike soundtracks that have words. It takes something away from what is going on, on the screen.

Probably the best soundtrack ever, is from the movie The Rock

Webcast Jeremy

Filed under: Mindless BanterJeremy @ 1:47:37 PM

Today was a unique experience I’ve been building myself up for, for the past few weeks.

The PD and Marketing guys at headquarters like to perform this “fuzzy” sales pitches called “Webcasts”, in which they gather a bunch of accountant-types into a virtual teleconference.

Today, I was asked to speak on some technical issues regarding my product.

State of the Geek (2003)

Filed under: Personal,PontificationsJeremy @ 12:16:38 PM Tags:

And now, for entirely unimportant reasons, I would like to give my 29th annual State of the Geek address.

The occasion for this address is the fact that the Earth is in a special position in its yearly orbit of the sun.

For those of you who don’t quite understand, just keep reading. As I mentioned, it is entirely unimportant.

The Month that Saved America

After watching the History Channel’s Special: April 1865: The Month that Saved America. I was hooked on the idea that April 1865 was a revolutionary month.

It was an outstanding program, describing the events leading to Lee’s Surrender, Lincoln’s Assassination, and the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth.

But that wasn’t all. While these major events of April 1865 were climatic in themselves, the secondary evetns were equally consequential (and I’ve never seen them in a History Book, ever.)

So I picked up the book, which was the basis for this History Channel Special: April 1865: The Month That Saved America., by Jay Winik.

And I have to say, I’ve only read the introduction and the first Chapter. Pretty much it is the events leading up to April 1, and Lee’s retreat from Richmond.

Already, I’m hooked!

The Grill Master returns!

Filed under: PersonalJeremy @ 6:44:27 PM

Today marked the occasion of one of the various times in the course of the year where the GeekBrigade hosts a party.

Usually around Mid-June, we host a party for our church (the members who choose to stick it out during the summer, or are not on vacation.)

I man the grill and the pool is in use.

And as usual, we get a ton of eegees iced beverages.

April 9, 1865

I don’t know about the rest of you, but when I learned about Civil War history the end of the Civil War looked like this:

  • Late in March 1865, Grant and his army captures Richmond, Va. The Capitol of the Confederate States of America.
  • Lee and the Army of Nothern Virginia, escapes capture, and travels southwest to meet up with Johnston and his army.
  • Grant pursues Lee, and overpowers the Army of Nothern Virginia which leads to the surrendur at Appomattox.
  • They all live happilly ever-after, if you don’t count the painful reconstructions period and the Johnson/Grant/Hayes Presidencies.

Sound familliar?

Well, check this out:

Fire on High

Filed under: Mindless BanterJeremy @ 11:07:48 AM

Update to the Alpine Wildfire Story from June 19, 2003.

I was driving home from work, late, the other night. And in the clear evening sky, I could see the glow of the flames of the fires, both on the Santa Catalinas (Mt. Lemmon) and the Rincon Mountains. It was an interesting site to see. There was something surreal and supernatural about it.

Getting outside the Box

After an interesting AIM conversation with Allison, I got to thinking about “the big picture.”

I think everyone can relate when I say that everyone, sometime in thier life, sees “The Big Picture.”

Where through some way or another, you look beyond you self-contained little world, and see the rest of the world for what it is. For some people this is a momentary pause in their life, for other people, the big picture consumes their life.

Usually, this is spurred by an event, a thought, or even a fleeting idea.

But every single time it happens, it always includes some thought to the effect of, “Wow. Now it makes more sense!”

The Matrix: Demoted [er, ReLoaded]

Okay, I caved.

I said I would wait until August, but I saw the new Matrix movie this week.

As per my peers, I was disappointed, even after reading all the reviews.

Instead of berating the movie, like my peers have done, I’d rather talk about what I think is going on.
