From the modern sage Joe Bob Briggs:
From 1991 to 2001, the number of people living in the South who identify themselves as “Southerners” declined from 78 percent to 70 percent, according to a Vanderbilt University study. And people wonder why NASCAR has gone all to hell.
So does that mean that there are less DamnYankees too?
In my daily life, I’ve often found myself working as a free consultant to my friends and family regarding computers, specifically the software end of things. In this role, I’ve often found myself recommending certain softwares to people, based on the problems they have gotten themselves in, or simply so they could make an informed choice.
So Jeremy-Gilby-Dot-Com presents:
My roommates can attest that I’ve actually JOKED about this discussion, using a Louis Farrakhan voice:
And so on and so forth.
Well, I saw this on Best of the Web:

I just finished reading The Bourne Supremacy, the second book in The Bourne Identity Trillogy. It is difficult not to compare this book with the first one (See the review here) and the only real similarity is that the book is about David Webb (a.k.a. Jason Bourne), and his wife Marie St. Jacques Webb. Everything else about the book was vastly different in both tone, plot and tempo.

Is Jayson Blair‘s book, Burning Down My Master’s House, now on sale at book stores everywhere, going to be found in the Fiction, or Non-Fiction section?
After my rant about the Anti-Bush 9/11 survivors, I came across this Article on Opinion-Journal-dot-com. It was written by the sister of Charles F. Burlingame III, the captain of American Airlines flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon.

Today, in the Cubicle Jungle, was one of the most unexpected surprises.
A day that has gone as missed for many months, and weeks.
A day that is quietly rejoiced by over 50% of the cubicle population.

I’ve finally made the switch from the Palm Pilot to the Sony “Clie”. So now my Personal Data Assistant has a ton of bells and whistles, including an inexpensive digital recorder.

I’ve worked in a lot of places, and have done a lot of things, but one thing about working in this Cubicle Jungle office environment is that its quite unique. There are a lot of unspoken rules in regards to personal growth, strategy, and getting things done. You have to know the system, and work through its many eccenticities that come from such a complex bureaucracy of processes, policies, and other problems.
Over time, I’ve collected a series of simple phrases which guide my day, and keep me focused. Most of which came from a former director (of General Electric Fame). While this man was not the most successful guy in this cubicle jungle, his adages still ring true (even after several bloody reorganizations of not only my department, but the overall office)

I watched Network the other day. While it was not a “great” movie, its was interesting, and at the same time quite sureal. Its one of those movies, I had to watch, just so I could say that I watched it, but at the same time, I would not recommend it for anyone else. It was also one of those dark comedy type movies that really isn’t funny, as much as it is just plain strange.
However, this movie was quite timeless. It was speaking a message to the audience, and that message still rings true today.

Yesterday I got my first portion of Comment Spam. I almost feel proud that I’ve had a weblog over 2 years and this is the FIRST instance of such internet sewage.
Part of my defense is probably the lack of allowance for comments to the individual posts, that is until recently.

Here is something I’ve found annoying yet interesting:
Given the recent attack Spain, the threat of al-Qaida around the world, the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and etc. People (ie. the press) have been throwing a barrage of vernacular at us. Separatist, Fundamentalist, Militant; which we all consider to be synonymous with “Terrorst”, but if you look closely, they are not.

So why St. Patrick’s Day?
Patrick was one of those grey characters in history. But without him the world would probably be very different.
One source that I’ve used in reference to the man we call St. Patrick is the book, How the Irish Saved Civilization, which I encourage any history buff to read.

Is it me, or has there suddenly been an outburst of Spam in recent days. Its been so bad that I’ve had to put up a thicker anti-spam wall on my various E-mail accounts around the World Wide Web.
This is getting out of control. SPAM is one of the most frustrating points of my existence here in the internet age. When 19 out of 20 peices of mail are from people I don’t want to hear from, its a bad thing.

From The Joe Bob Report and The Free Republic
William J. Cottrell, a member of the Earth Liberation Front, was arrested for spray-painting and fire-bombing 125 SUV’s last summer at auto dealerships in Southern California, causing $1 million in damage and, coincidentally, releasing a lot of pollutants (smoke and toxic paint) into the environment.
ELF received legal funding from PeTA.
So PeTA is polluting the atmosphere with more then just their hot air.
Just FYI.
With Questions of the goings on in Haiti, Iraq, North Korea, and Djibouti, its good to know where the mighty mighty U.S. Naval SuperCarriers are, and what they are doing. So to update you from Last Time, here is the lastest on the Carrier Strike Groups.

I added 2 more Steve McQueen movies to my viewed collection
As you recall from Previous Posts. I’ve a big fan of Steve McQueen, and I’m astonished that as he’s mostly cast as a protagonist, he’s not always the winner in his movies. And these latest two do not help his record. (Not that thats a bad thing)
I’ve recently added a new McQueen Movie to my Steve McQueen awareness:

Is THIS the Voice of America?

And: Best of the Web.
It isn’t a secret that I like the U.S. Navy, especially their Mighty Mighty SuperCarriers. But I’ve been amiss in praising the work of the U.S. Air Force, and their Mighty Mighty SuperBombers.
My roommate Matt, brought the movements of these great planes to my attention though his periodic topic of Where are the Bombers?.
The reason I like Bombers (especially the current Heavy Long Range Bomber Fleet) is the fact that we have the technology and the geographical means to deliver our air presence all over the world. In all reality, in 18 hours, the President of the United States can order a precision attack on any point of the globe. (That is impressive!) And that is why the US SuperBomber fleet is so important to have.
So how many to we have? And Where are they?

From Today’s Best of the Web:
The New York Post reports that Clotaire Rapaille, a French-born “marketing guru,” has a new book coming out called “Archetypes of the Presidency,” in which he criticizes John Kerry for being, well, French-looking:
A French-Born Marketing Guru?

What the hell is wrong with these people?
I was reading Peggy Noonan’s article today on Opinion-Journal-dot-com. I always look forward to her Thursday Column as she has a great Reagan-like perspective of things today. Which is often the same perspective I have. (And its nice reading something political that agrees with your way of thinking, rather then telling you how to think.)
But there was one passage that caught my attention, as I fall into the same trap with technical support.

I ran across an interesting article on the Opinion-Journal-dor-com site:
The US Senate Recently passed a rather interesting bill which President Bush is more-then-expected to sign into Law.
The H. R. 1997 Unborn Victims of Violence Act.
In a nutshell, this bill would make violence against a pregnant woman two separate crimes–one harming the woman and another against her unborn child.
And of course, can you guess who is opposed to this piece of legislation?
I just finished the book Timeline (A Which I received from a kind reader, via my Amazon-dot-com Wishlist) (Yes, Virgina, Wishlists WORK!) by Michael Crichton.
He’s no Tom Clancy, and usually I like the yarns that Crichton writes (Jurrasic Park, Sphere, A Case of Need, The Andromeda Strain), Timeline fell short of Crichton’s usual greatness.

Ever watch one of those movies that you were referred to by a friend? You would have never even know about this movie until they mentioned it, and after you watch it, you don’t know how you could live the rest of your life having NOT watched it?
Last night, for me, that movie was called The Red Violin. It was an incredible peice of writing, and a story that played with your attention. Truley a work of art, about a work of art.
