I was in the theatre the other week, and I saw a trailer for yet another Matt Damon movie, The Bourne Supremacy, and from what I saw in the trailer, it had nothing to do with the plot of the not-so-great book of the same name.
However, when I researched this movie, I was a little preterbed by something. I’ll try and put it into words here.

There is a meme running around the net on “What books have you read” from This List.
Sadly, I’ve read all of 3 of these books, and I don’t consider those three to be of any of the books that I’ve really appreciated.
So I thought I’d create another list:
X Books that have changed my life
X = whatever number I list below

In case you missed it, there was an interesting conversation on Allison-Lives-dot-com on the importance of Character. Allison put forth the argument that we need people with more character in public office, but there was a very loud response in the negative. That Character doesn’t matter as much as the ability to do the job well.
I disagree wholeheartedly, because the two traits and inextricably linked…

Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks became the oldest player ever to pitch a perfect game, closing out 27 batters in a row against the Atlanta Braves, on the road, and striking out 13. Johnson is 40 years old–an old man in baseball terms–and was working with a rookie catcher, Robby Hammock, who had his signals shaken off only two or three times. In sports terms, that’s the equivalent of Haley’s Comet.
Stinkin’ Rick likes the Stinkin’ Braves. So this is sticking it to Stinkin’ Rick.

I was wondering what the Colonel-and-Commander-In-Chief of Libya had to say on the death of President Reagan, and then I saw this Reuters article on Best of the Web Today.
Gadhafi, Duck!
Col. Moammar Gadhafi, Libya’s dictator, still hasn’t managed to earn a general’s star, but he did weigh in on the death of President Reagan, Reuters reports:
“I express my profound regrets over Reagan’s death before he appeared before justice to be held to account for his ugly crime in 1986 against Libyan children,” Gaddafi told the official JANA news agency.
Yes, we know that “Libya, which recently emerged from international isolation over its alleged support for ‘terrorism’ “–there they go again–”has been promoting better ties with the United States.” But can’t we drop a bomb or two on this creep, just for old times’ sake?

Time to lighten things up around Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com. The posting lately has been on the political/memorial side as of late, so this is the perfect time to unveil the Search Results for the Month of May.
For those of you who came in late: These are the Top-20 search strings used to find Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com on the World Wide Web.
Now, I’d like to speak to soemthing that I’ve been observing over the past few months.
A LOT of you are using MSN as your search engine, and frankly that makes me feel a little ill.
Havn’t you heard of GOOGLE you FREAKS?
Or even Yahoo?
Come on, MSN? That is like using Crayons to write a term paper.
Anyways, lets get to checking!

Astronomy is one of the loves in my life which I really don’t talk about all that much. But everyonce in awhile I find myself outside at night, getting lost in the stars. So it would be a crime if I didn’t mention that today was the Venus Transit.
In short, the Venus Transit is the rare event where the planet Venus is directly between us, here on Earth, and the Sun. Its kind of like a REALLY SMALL solar eclipse. (The planet Mercury has a simmilar event, and happens a bit more frequently, but is really hard to observe)

One of the failing points of my Favorite Actors list is it has no place for me to put Bruce Campbell. He is too deserving of an actor to be listed in the “Honorable Mention” section, but I cannot bring myself to adjust any of the top five. So like the characters he portrays Bruce Campbell is in the unmentioned grey area between.
But last night, Tim and I watched the eagerly anticipated Bubba Ho-Tep.

But the whole case about the removal of the Under Gode Pledge of Allegiance seems to be coming to a close, as the U.S. Supreme Court has had their say and dismissed the case.
BRAVO.
Though I’m not happy with the way the court made this decision, but the details were quite telling, I think.

A discussion thread on the Internet Movie Database (all quotes are verbatim) features accusations that the new movie “Garfield,” which apparently depicts the 20th president as a cartoon cat, is racist.
Of course, the movie concludes unhappily for Garfield, who is fatally shot by a disgruntled job-seeker. Yeah, we know, we should have warned you a spoiler was coming, but we figured anyone who saw “Arthur” back in 1981 already knows how the prequel turns out.

From Al Gores own mouth:
The Administration works closely with a network of “rapid response” digital Brown Shirts who work to pressure reporters and their editors for “undermining support for our troops.” Paul Krugman, the New York Times columnist, was one of the first journalists to regularly expose the President’s consistent distortions of the facts. Krugman writes, “Let’s not overlook the role of intimidation. After 9/11, if you were thinking of saying anything negative of the President…you had to expect right-wing pundits and publications to do all they could to ruin your reputation.

Headlining an appearance with other Democratic women senators on behalf of Sen. Barbara Boxer, who is up for re-election this year, Hillary Clinton told several hundred supporters – some of whom had ponied up as much as $10,000 to attend – to expect to lose some of the tax cuts passed by President Bush if Democrats win the White House and control of Congress.
“Many of you are well enough off that … the tax cuts may have helped you,” Sen. Clinton said. “We’re saying that for America to get back on track, we’re probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.“
