Book Review: Presidential Leadership

You may recall my Previous Post regarding the Wall Street Journal’s Presidential Rankings. After learning more about this, I picked up my own copy of the book, Presidential Leadership: Rating the Best and the Worst in the White House. And it is a good read.

On top of the interesting way they compiled this list, they also include pithy biographies of each of the 42 presidents from Washington to George W. Bush. Its a great Cliff’s Notes version of American History, displaying how and why each president was great, or not-so-great.

Iron High-Stakes Poker

Filed under: TVJeremy @ 5:16:06 PM
From the "You-gotta-know-when-to-fold-em" Department

I’m not a gambling man, by trade, nor am I a good “Bluffer”, at least, I don’t think I am.

Well, this holiday week, I got sucked into watching something that I’d never thought I’d get yanked into:

  • For one reason, its on the Bravo network (Sorry Denis Leary, just cause its independent film, doesn’t mean its good.)
  • Second, its hosted by Dave (I used to think I was Funny) Foley.
  • Third, its watching people play cards on TV

The United Nations vs. Spam

The United Nations is declaring “war” on Spam.
Well, maybe not.

I saw this article on h-t-t-p-colon forward-slash forward-slash slash-dot-dot-org, refrencing this article on The AOL News Network.

So its the “Moral Authority” of the United Nations versus the “Bottom-Dwelling” nature of Spammers.

So I’m in a “quagmire”.

I don’t know who to root for.

I went to the used book store yesterday to get rid of some of my old College Texts, and some books that I’ve never read and never planned on reading. In the effort, I picked up 2 others, which I’ve eagerly added to my plans for Summer Reading.

I love a good book, especially in the Summer.

“The Colonel” is still in the news, in this Opinion Journal Feature Article (Need Free Subscription, or wait until tomorrow).

Seems like while the Colonel has reduced his terrorism abroad, he is still quite the bad-guy at home.

And the U.N. in all its “Moral Authority”, isn’t happy.
Go figure.

On Dissent

Filed under: RantsJeremy @ 2:30:02 PM
From the "We-Must-Dissent" Department

Matt had posted about his obvservations of a certain flower store near our house with some rather inflamatory comments about President Bush. One of the slogans he used as a mantra for awhile caught my attention:

“Dissent is the greatest form of patriotism”

And yes, this is true. But I don’t think the owner of this store really knows what Dissent is.

This has been floating around the Internet, so I’d put my own little spin on it:

Read this like you would watching the Simpsons:

Sales Clerk: “Take this object, but beware! It carries a terrible curse…”
    Homer: “Ooh, that’s bad!”
Clerk: “…but it comes with a free Frosted Yogurt, which I call ‘frogurt’!”
    Homer: “That’s good!”
Clerk: “…the frogurt is also cursed…”
    Homer: “That’s bad!”
Clerk: “…but you get your choice of topping…”
    Homer: “That’s good!”
Clerk: “The toppings contain potassium benzoate…”
    [Silence]
