TimingGate

Filed under: ParodiesJeremy @ 11:15:27 AM
From the "Timing-is-Everything" Department

Don’t you hate when parody becomes real life?
Here is the Parody (from The Politburo Diktat :: Pardon the Communist Satire): (Emphasis Mine)

Comrades, everything and anything that happens, favorable to Criminal Bush, at any juncture, can be dismissed darkly as “suspicious timing.”

It is basic, rudimentary Politics 101, that hardly bears stating, to be able to answer the following question: “When is the optimal time to reveal that your opponent’s national security advisor has stolen secret documents by hiding them in his pants?”

Why, three and a half months before the election, … of course.

Read the whole thing.
And more satire from IowaHawk: (Emphasis Mine)

Embattled US President George W. Bush today sought to distance himself from the simmering ‘Timingate’ scandal that has dominated the national press and broadcast news for the past three days, and threatens to topple his administration.

In what many saw as an evasive and legalistically worded defense, Bushed denied any personal culpability or involvement in L’affaire Berger, in which thousands of Washington GOP operatives remain under a cloud of suspicion for leaking sensitive information about an informal advisor to Democratic presidential hopeful John Kerry.

Bush’s denials prompted immediate condemnations from the Kerry campaign and Hill Democrats, many of whom saw Bush’s denials as suspiciously timed and politically motivated.

Book Review: Mr. Midshipman Hornblower

Filed under: Books,ReviewsJeremy @ 9:35:08 PM Tags:
From the "Play-My-Theme-Music!" Department

I recently finished reading Mr. Midshipman Hornblower, of the Hornblower saga, by C.S. Forester. It stayed only 3-days on my “In Progress” status on the Jeremy R. Gilby Reading List.

I’ve not read any of Forester’s work, so this was indeed a nice treat.

Okay, I’m going over my activity logs, and I’m seeing some unusual behavior, which suggests that Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com has more readers then I know about.

So this is what I propose, I’d like to do a roll-call to see who is indeed reading Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com
1) First, to stay any paranoia
2) Second, to feed my curiousity

So, if you are a regular (or even a casual) reader of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com, please leave a short comment, or E-mail RollCall@JeremyGilbyS.com. (Leave the Last S off for Spam)

My Political Belief

Filed under: PersonalJeremy @ 9:29:29 AM
From the "The-Politics-of-Dancing Re-flex" Department

This is my political manifesto as well:
From Peggy Noonan’s Opinion Journal Article (Emphasis Mine):

Because I am a conservative I support the party that best represents conservative views, the Republican Party. Sometimes I get mad at it; often it disappoints me. It is imperfect, and not perfectible. But to a greater degree than in the past I feel an urge to help it. Since peace was wrenched off the tracks on 9/11, deep in my heart I have pulled for President Bush, Vice President Cheney, members of the current administration, and Republicans in the Senate and the House. With the decline of the Democratic Party I have become convinced there is a greater chance we will win the war if the Republican Party wins the election.

Sledge Hammer!

From the "Trust-Me, I-Know-what-I'm-doing" Department

Back in 1986, there was this cute little ultra-violent show on Broadcast TV, called “Sledge Hammer!”. It was Dirty-Harry-like cop named “Sledge Hammer” and his fight against a crime ridden city.

There was only one problem. The man was a myopic psychopath, who talked to his gun, and slept with it next to his pillow. But he got the job done, of course, in the most humourous fashion possible.

Well, the series recently came out on DVD, and its been the talk of this Cublcle Jungle, so I’ve had to rent the series from NetFlix.

The Modernist Papers

Filed under: ModernistJeremy @ 3:14:29 PM
From the "A-Variation-on-a-theme" Department

200-some-odd years ago, in 1787 and 1788, three men wrote a series of essays to the State of New York regarding the importance of the Ratification of the new United States Constituion. They were Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay.

The Federalist Papers consisted of 85 essays outlining how this new government would operate and why this type of government was the best choice for the United States of America. All of the essays were signed under the name “PUBLIUS”, and to this day are the ultimate source on understanding the political language of the supreme law of this country.
