Well, this seems to be a dry news-cycle, so Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com will take a brief look at the pressing news items of recent days:

• There is a lot of noise about Able Danger, and the military knowing that there was an Al-Quaeda cell operating in the United States.
  I’m sorry, but I cannot get excited over this. What would we have done about it, back then? Storm the cell, and arrest everyone? (This is BEFORE the Patriot Act, remember (and even WITH the Patriot Act, arresting a suspsected terrorist requires something on par with a blessing from the ACLU) and pamper them at Gitmo?) What good would this knowledge have done pre-Sept-11?
• Some chick is camping outside the Western White House (She must REALLY want tickets to the show), along with a plethora of press. From all her previous statements, the woman sounds like a moonbat. (See Best of the Web Today – First Item.)
• And I-Ran…. I-Ran has nukes to-daaay…. (with apologies to “Flock Of Seagulls”)
  Well, they don’t have actual nukes yet, but everyone seems to be quaking over the idea that they are close.
• Meanwhile, Senator Edward Kennedy is still suffering from a personal quagmire, in which wherever he looks he thinks he sees a quagmire; and as a result is asking everyone to retire or resign, except himself.

  Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.

• Hillary Clinton is still not running for president
• Neither is Al Gore
• Neither is The haughty french-looking Massachusetts Democrat who by-the-way served in Vietnam.
• Yassir Arafat is still in Stable Condidtion after dying in a Paris Hospital.
• Lybian Terrorist and Dictator Muammar Abu Minyar al-Qadahfi is still a Colonel. (T-Shirts for sale!)
• Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com is Still Good In China (Be sure to buy the T-shirt!)

People like the esteemed Senator Edward “Teddy” Kennedy, are calling the U.S. Efforts in Iraq a quagmire.

Lets take a look at this a little deeper, shall we?

Late Friday Night, I enjoied some Geek-Downtime and finally got around to updating Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com to WordPress 1.5.2.

I’m getting the hang of these updates. Given good bandwidth it takes about 15-20 minutes to backup, delete, upload and run the Upgrade protocol. (Ironically, it takes about 20 minutes for The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com to compile a weekly report on the cubicle jungle for the rest of the Not-So-Small-Software-Organization.)

I just finished watching the Complete Series of Firefly on DVD. It was a short-lived sci-fi series on Fox, in 2002. After watching the DVD collection, I’m sad that I missed it in its original airing, but pleased that I took the time to watch the series on DVD.

This afternoon, some of the more specialized teams (like mine) were awarded with a nifty cubicle trinket. It was to The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com‘s surprise when our immediate manager presented us with a martini-glass.

Now, usually I’m not one to brag about any cubicle goodies I may-or-may not receive. But in this case, since I’m quite known for enjoying the tasty adult beverage known as the Martini, I felt it was worthy of a post on Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com.

Hurricane Katrina sure packed a wallop, didn’t she; and poor New Orleans is trying not to perform an impression of Venice Italy.

It kind of reminds me of another disaster that happened less than a year ago. It was a Tsunami in the Indian Ocean. (Perhaps you remember it?)

I also remember, thanks to this blog, the ammount of U.S. Support which went out to those who were affected by such a disaster (and the scorn of the U.N. when the actual U.S. Government gave so little.) I also remember the mighty-mighty U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln arrived on the scene in mass relief.

In the end, the citizens of the United States gave more money than any other country on the planet, to the Tsunami relief effort.

As of this writing Katrina’s cost of damages is now exceeding 16-BILLION dollars.
