Like most years, since I’ve moved to Arizona, I watched the Super Bowl with about 25 of my closest friends. It was a mixed crowd, no real die-hard fans of either team. But we all enjoied (both male and female) the meeting of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks.
Some personal highlights of the evening follow:

There is always this bittersweet moment after the SuperBowl, the uber-culmination of all that is good and proper in the world of Football. The painful release of the intesity of the most exciting game in the sport, and then… its gone.
The day after football, the last vestiges of the football season. The peak day to talk about THE game around the watercooler. Tuesday, it wont be the same anymore, and soon, it will be a football void.

The Modernist Papers
I was listening to a talk show (which will remain unnamed) last week, in which a caller rang in and tried to explain why the wealthiest 1% of the world needs to pay 24.8% of the Tax Burden.
His logic was that in the Distribution of Wealth the top 1% “own” 32.7% of the available wealth.
The talkshow host got stuck on the word “own”, so he didn’t quite understand what the caller meant. The host thought that the caller was talking about Property Ownership in the country – ie, the top 1% own 32.7% of the United States.
But I was able to catch the philosophy of the caller, and I noticed a major philosophical error (one which many Americans either consciously, or unconsciously believe.)

Growing up in Pennsylvania, one learns about severe winter weather. Especially in the Deleware Valley, February was the most common month to receive a snow storm from Mother Nature. 2006 did not disappoint in this area.
Currently, Mom and Dad are buried under inches of snow. Joe, G.B. and Rachael probably have a few more inches.
I enjoied the snow storm from Sunny Tucson Arizona, where the temperature is currently 75 degrees in a cloudless sunny sky.

Now that the Chronicles of Narnia have come to the Theaters, in the form of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, an old argument has come forth, due to the fact that the chronology of the books has been altered in the past 20 years.
You see, in the original distribution, the first book in the series is “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe”, however, if you buy the books today, The Order has been altered. This debate got me thinking of another potential chronology debate:
Several years back, The-Roommate-Formerly-Known-as-Matthew-Maynard and I discussed the correct order to view the Uber-Mega Star Wars Trillogy.
At the time, Episode II was coming out, and we were holding our verdict.
The theory, and we have some mutual friends who fall into this case, is that there will soon be people who have not seen any of the Star Wars films. So what order should they be viewed in.
- In order of release?
- In order of chronology?

There has been some recent blather about the recent change to Netflix‘s Terms of Use; and their new policy about “Throttling”.
From h-t-t-p-colon forward-slash forward-slash slash-dot-dot-org:
from the don’t-use-what-you-pay-for dept.
“Netflix has begun using a ‘fairness algorithm’ that slows shipments of movies to heavy users to protect profits, according to an MSNBC article. Netflix revised its terms of use in January 2005 to read, ‘In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service’. Since revising this policy last year, more and more users are realizing ‘heavy renters are more likely to encounter shipping delays and less likely to immediately be sent their top choices’ according to the article.”

This is something I’ve been thinking about as of late, so I decided to do some research and put my thoughts down.
When I was a less tolerant political pundit (circa age 14) I always considered the term “Democrat” to be below standard.
So when I saw records of Early American History, and people like Thomas Jefferson labeled as “Democratic-Republicans” I was frustrated, to say the least.
But today, I’m much more broad minded. Thanks to statements from my Dad like,
This is looking more like the Democratic Party I grew up with. The one that John Kennedy shocked when he suggested that lower taxes would create growth. And you thought that was a Reagan idea when in fact he copied Kennedy’s theory. Reagan was a democrat and labor leader and considered Kennedy forward thinking, but look who got the credit. Reaganomics!
This suggested to me that the current political party structure was not always what it appeared to be.
