YAY! Tucson!

Filed under: LocalJeremy @ 10:32:09 AM
From the "Aint-no-way-to-get-there-from-here" Department

Last week, a disaster of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com proportions occured near my home on the West Side of town. The Intersection of Grant and Silverbell suffered from a sinkhole.

The city shut down the main artery of North Silverbell between Speedway and Grant, and the whole intersection was cut off from all traffic from all directions. (This is directly in my route to and from work)

Detours were available, but were REALLY inconvenient, due to the way we are slightly off the grid.

The City said it might take 4 weeks to repair the road and intersection. (Locals might remember a simillar sink hole on Speedway and Grande. That took months to fix) I feared the worse.

But I found out yesterday that the whole operation took less than a week, and as reported in the Local News; and as I discovered this morning, traffic has been completely restored to the intersection.

Yes, I’m a tall. (So is Dad, and Cisco… so there!)

Taller then most, but at the same time not taller then all.

Frickin’ Hollywood!

From the "Oh, Please, NO!" Department

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Hollywood had no clue; not just in Politics, but it seems in Entertainment.
And Ben Affleck is most-probably sub-human, and needs to be wiped out with fungacide.

Cinescape-dot-com has an article on two potential new Ben Affeck vehicles. (Don’t click the link, if you don’t have to, there’s a mess of annoying banners and crap there.)

How to Win the SuperBowl in one easy step

From the "Another-curse-for-Donovan-McNabb?" Department

Nathan, over at Chiefly Musing has an insightful analysis of the History of the Super Bowl.

Here is a taste:

There’s one thing that stands out in almost all the 39 Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks. I’ll give you a hint. Donavon McNabb will never win. Nor will Daunte Culpepper. Brooks Bollinger isn’t going to make it. Matt Cassel might have a chance. Alex Smith might as well hang it up. Unless he starts going by Al, of course. Yep, with a very few exceptions, the most important quality in a Super Bowl winning quarterback is a short, simple, masculine first name.

While he speaks ill of the mighty-mighty Donovan McNabb, it is hard to argue his findings and analysis.

Go check it out.

Living in train-distance from the Gotham of New York City, I’ve had the pleasure of viewing six broadway shows, including Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Will Rodgers’ Follies, Starlight Express, and Into the Woods; but my favorite has always been Les Miserables.

Les Mis is on its last tour, and the show appeared in Tucson last night, and I had the pleasure of attending it, one last time.

After talking about Movie Recommendations in a previous article, I figured the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com audience might appreciate an open thread to talk about Movie Suggestions for the rest of the group.

I know that Cisco and I will often trade movie titles that the other might appreciate.
Allison has been no stranger to throwing movie suggestions in The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com‘s general direction.

So what say you folks? Seen a movie recently that you just HAVE to talk about?

Knock Knock Knocking on Qadahfi’s Door

Filed under: IFJJeremy @ 7:44:00 AM
From the "Who-do-you-think? The-Libyans!" Department

I just heard on the Radio that the U.S. State Department is officially taking Libya off the list of Terror States and is planning to re-open diplomatic relations with an embassy in both the U.S. and Lybia.

According to the CIA World Map site:

[T]he US suspended all embassy activities in Tripoli in May 1980, resumed embassy activities in February 2004 under the protective power of the US interests section of the Belgian Embassy in Tripoli, then opened a Liaison Office in Tripoli in June 2004

And

Libya does not have an embassy in the US but maintains an interest section under the protective power of the United Arab Emirates Embassy in the US

The DaVinci Hype

With the DaVinci Code coming around to theaters everywhere, talk of the movie is the talk of the town.
Currently, The Da Vinci Code is at the top of the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Reading List.

I’m only halfway through the book, and I’m enjoying the read, but I’m disappointed in the lack of Da Vinci.
Sure his artwork is referenced in the book, BUT… its what is done AROUND the artwork that is the story.
