Yesterday, I spent the late afternoon and evening packing up The-Roommate-Formerly-Known-as-Matthew-Maynard and his wife, Jen into a U-Haul Trailer for their impending move to Charlotesville Virginia.
So now, Matt is officially, The-Former-Tucsonan and Roommate-Formerly-Known-as-Matthew-Maynard, as they are leaving today on their venture across these United States of America (I know their drive, as The-Evil-Doctor-Merlin-Channing-Lowe-Jr., Growler, some-democrat, and myself made the same trip, by car, back in August of 1998.)
Matt leaves us with mixed feelings on my part. I’m happy that he and his wife are starting a new life in a new place, but at the same time, I miss the loss of my friends. (more…)

There is always a perrennial debate on such silly things, like “Is Jesus Republican or Democrat?”
“If George Washington were around today, would he have voted for George W. Bush or John Kerry?”
Or Thomas Jefferson?
Or Thomas Paine? (The Author of the Department Name above)
Or John Madison?
Or Benjamin Franklin?
I think I have a different answer to the question. I think all these people expected such political discourse.
You’ve got a little Jersey in you. Not too bad, however you could have done a lot better. Based on this score, you may not actually be from New Jersey. You’re missing out!
NASA just outdid all 230 celebrations of the Independence of the United States of America as they lauched a ginormous rocket into the sky off Cape Canaveral.

I’m in a foul mood today (well, not just today, but today I feel like admitting it) which flared up this morning due to some Cubicle Culture mindlessness. (And the hint of an Evil word like OSHA)
Anyways, during this kerfuffle, I was reminded of a few mindless events in other cubicle jungles I had heard about. (more…)

I’ve heard a lot of differing opinions on the Embryonic Stem Cell debate, from both sides of the argument. And now that Dubya has used his first veto on a bill to provide Federal Funding to Embryonic Stem Cells, the debate has gotten louder.
I’m going to come right out and say that I’m against Embryonic Stem Cell research, for a plethora of reasons ranging from religious conviction to political disagreement and also scientific skepticism.
However, James Taranto of Best of the Web [Yesterday] has a great perspective on this whole argument, and I quote his article in full: (more…)

Since the [first wave of the] “Web 2.0″ craze is almost over, now everyone is either jumping on, or jumping off the Net Neutrality bandwagon.
The Premise, The Dark Cabal that Controls Everything is working with ISPs so they can have the ability to throttle certain domains, thus encouraging their readers to go to more “preferred” websites.
I can’t believe I neglected the traditional monthly event of the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Searchy Fun!
For those of you who came in late, these are the top 20 search hits used to find Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com on the various search engines of the World Wide Web.

Readers of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com know that I have kind of a love-hate fondness for Democrat Ed Rendel, now Governor of Pennsylvania. He does some good things, does some questionable things, but overall, I consider him my favorite Democrat.
A microphone picked up an unaware President Bush saying on Monday Syria should press Hezbollah to “stop doing this [scatological vulgarity]” and that his secretary of state may go to the Middle East soon.
Reuters, which considers terrorism taboo, actually quotes the vulgarity, which we’ve omitted, in part because this Web site is published by a family newspaper and in part because we’re not sure the president didn’t actually say “Shiite.”

Our recess appointted Ambassador to the United Nations is coming up for another hearing in the Senate to keep his seat and gain his full appointment to the organization with such moral authority, as the U.N.
Few political figures in recent history have so polarized opinion in Congress as John Bolton, the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Faced with Senate gridlock, Bolton was sent by President George W. Bush as a recess appointment to the United Nations last August. With Bolton’s recess appointment expiring when the new Congress convenes in January 2007, the President recently announced that he would again submit Bolton for confirmation. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee plans to vote on Bolton’s nomination in August, with a full vote of the Senate expected in September. The Senate thus has a rare political opportunity: a chance to rectify a major mistake. This time, the Senate should confirm John Bolton.

Aside from the mystery of Dark Matter (Which I’ve discussed enough at length) there is another mystery which is frustrating Astronomers, expecially Galactic Astronomers. The Large Scale Structure of the Universe.

As some of you know, I’ve not so recently moved to a home off the Tucson Grid, which means, that we live in an area that doesn’t “line up” with the rest of the grid. Our neighborhood is not as urban, and there are washes, and wildlife living in those washes.
Well, last night, it rained like cats and dogs, it was a southern wind, (I know this because the southern wind/rain storms cause leaks in my south facing bedroom… and I was catching dripping water all night) these happen around once a year. Anyways, the havalinas were out in full force this morning and late afternoon.
I noticed their work from this morning, as they dislodged my Sirius Satelite Radio Antena. Then again when I came home, I saw their herd munching on the wildlife around our house. I was able to snap a few pictures. (more…)

Its a rather nice game, as it only requires 5-10 minutes a day of your attention. (more…)
