Movie Review: Invincible

Thanks to a pre-Labor-Day half-day off from the cubicle jungle, Marshie and The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com skipped the department picinic and went to the Ex-Con Mall to see the latest Disney feel-good-vehicle Invincible.

In two words, it was great

Sold Out

Dad sented me this news this morning, regarding my former employer:
Clemens supermarket chain sold

It was a shock to me, for one, because I didn’t see the idea of Jack Clemens selling the whole chain. And two, I spent almost 4 years in that gig, and it was the second-longest employment of my working career; and my last employer in Pennsylvania.

Cubicle Culture: Conferences

From the "I'm-not-paid-to-be-nice; I'm-paid-to-be-right" Department

Earlier this week, Cisco and company came to the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Vicinity, to attend a conference sponsored by the Not-So-Small-Software-Organization. The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com and The Co-Hort were also in attendance.

I knew that I would not take anything away from this conference, I was invited as a contributor. I was there to serve, not to receive. It became even more aparent that I would not take away anything vital to my job, as I soon learned that the majority of the people in attendance were in a sales or marketing role; and this conference was for them.

One high point of the conference this week, was that Cisco smuggled beer from Ciscofornia to the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Vicinity.

I tried it the other night, and thought I would type up a review:

BAH!

From the "How-NOT-to-reearn-the-respect-of-the-NFL" Department

I think there were two different games at Lincoln Financial Field this Sunday.
The first three quarters, and the last 2 quarters (one of which was an overtime period)

BAH!

Needless to say, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the New [Jersey] Giants.

Where do we go for Lunch?

From the "Ask-not-what-you-can-do-for-your-country. Ask-'what's-for-lunch?'" Department

The history of every major galactic civilization tends to pass through three distinct and recognizable phases, those of Survival, Inquiry, and Sophistication, otherwise known as the How, Why, and Where phases. For instance, the first phase is characterized by the question “How can we eat?” the second by “Why do we eat?” and the third by “Where shall we have lunch?”.
– Douglas Adams – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

It is sad that the toughest decision of my day consists of what/where do I want to eat?

I make tons of “serious” decisions, daily; but everyday I come to an empass on this very personal, very essential, very trivial choice.

Different Week, Different Game

Filed under: FootballJeremy @ 6:25:33 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles went to Ciscofornia to do battle with the San Francisco 49ers.

Amazingly, when the Eagles and Niners show up, some crazy stuff happens. Like freak overtime victories. (Or in converse, the underdog Eagles defeating an undefeated 49ers, rendering them 15-1 for the season.)

This was no exception.

Book Review: Hornblower During the Crisis

Filed under: Books,ReviewsJeremy @ 2:52:19 PM Tags:

I recently finished the next chapter of the Hornblower Saga, Hornblower During The Crisis. It is the shortest of the series (I’ll explain why in a moment), so it only took a few hours. Still, I enjoyed it very much.

From the "Jeremy, I'm-afraid I'm-going-to-have to ask-you-to leave-the-theatre." Department

So, I’m perusing the net, after I posted about Coffee and I stumbled on Matt’s old post on the subject, and I click on Bruce-Campbell-dot-com. Over on the right hand side I see he’s doing another book tour, and right in the middle of the list I see.

Tucson, AZ
September 26th.

Hey! I say to myself. That’s tomorrow.
Hey! Tomorrow is the day after today!

Immediately I put the internet to work and get Tim and Growler on Gmail chat and we plan the evening.

Bruce was coming to Tucson, he was going to host a book signing, he’s the best most-underrated actor in all that is movies, and we have to go see him.
He was also hosting a late showing of Bubba Ho-Tep, but that was already sold out. But no matter, this was a chance in a lifetime, and we needed to see Bruce. And get him to sign stuff!

Me, Growler and Bwana
