Walter Marty Schirra, Jr. died yesterday, marking the fifth of the original seven Mercury Astronauts to pass on; leaving Scott Carpenter and John Glenn as the only two remaining.

Schirra was portrayed by both Lance Hendriksen, and Mark Harmon in biographies about the Mercury Program.

He flew in the Mercury 8 Mission, the Gemini 6A, and the Apollo 7 missions.
He participated in the first Space Rendezvous, between Gemini 6 and Gemini 7. Where two spacecraft came within 30 cm of one another.
Of the original seven, he flew the most missions.

Growler and I got into a discussion about the idea of a Ninja Pirate.

His claim, there cannot possibly be a Ninja Pirate, as the two beings are natural enemies.

I, however, have a different opinion. And since I have a public website, I’m spreading it around.

Fox News has been reporting about a recent Pew survey, I found it rather interesting.

The Pew Internet and American Life Project found that adult Americans are broadly divided into three groups: 31 percent are elite technology users, 20 percent are moderate users and the remainder have little or no usage of the Internet or cell phones.

They even offer a Quiz

So where does this non-cell-phone user fall in Pew’s Topography?

I’m depressed.

While I’m not an ice cream fanatic, I did fall in love with a particular flavor of Ice Cream.

Ben & Jerry’s Black and Tan flavor.

It had everything.
Tasty adult beverage reference

And dang did it taste good.

And Who knew Ice Cream people needed a Brewmeister?

Cisco introduced me to this flavor over a Two-Headed-Monster, and I scoured Tucson for it.

It was quite poignant to this reader, given all the Fear around Global Warming, which is where the book was written around.

DNR

I was going though a few things on a not-so-lazy afternoon, and I came upon a document. My Mother’s Advanced Directive for Health Care form, often called a “DNR” because it is most used by patients to say “Do Not Resuscitate” in the event of a medical emergency.

Mom wanted me to have a copy of this for some reason. I think to remind me, if ever the choice had to be made that her children were of the same mind as her.

I don’t think I need to keep this around anymore.

United Football League

Filed under: FootballJeremy @ 1:01:38 PM
From the "What-are-the-odds-in-Vegas-of-having-a-franchise-in-Vegas?" Department

Fox Sports is reporting the emergence of a rival to the National Football League
The UFL

Bill Hambrecht, a Wall Street businessman, and Tim Armstrong, a senior executive at Google, have decided to start up a rival football league, the United Football League, according to a report on the New York Times web site Wednesday.

For those worried that the UFL will lack name recognition, Hambrecht and Armstrong already have one owner lined up: Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

And though the league is having a difficult time finding other owners, it appears Cuban is committed to the plan. The league intends to play its first preseason games in August of 2008.

And where will the league find the talent necessary to attract fans?

“(Former NFL coach) Bill Walsh used to tell me that the last 20 players cut from every team were almost interchangeable with the last 20 players to make the team,” Hambrecht says.

So far, the UFL has decided to put teams in Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Mexico City. Cuban, unsurprisingly, is considering buying the team in Vegas, according to the report.
