The Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Footprint

From the "If-I-take-one-more-step, it'll-be-the-farthest-away-from-home-I've-ever-been" Department

I was performing a little exercise with a Google Maps Mashup, and I came to a rather anecdotal realization.

There is a Limited Area where Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Vicinity has traveled. There is a Westward limit, and an Eastward Limit.

I’m going to start calling this the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Footprint

Can Rupert Murdoch save Print Media?

From the "Page-Two" Department

Rupert Murdoch and the NewsCorp Juggernaut have a definitive agreement to purchase Dow Jones & Co. and the Wall Street Journal.

The question some talking heads are asking are:

  • Is this a monopoly?
  • Is Murdoch going to turn the WSJ into the New York Post?
  • Is this a meaningless transaction in a wanning print media?
  • Should USA Today be scared?

When Galaxies Collide

Saw this on h-t-t-p-colon forward-slash forward-slash slash-dot-dot-org.

Astronomers Witness Whopper Galaxy Collision

The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com would like to take this time to remind the Readers of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com that Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers.

And Galaxies should not be accelerating through the universe while talking on Cell Phones.

That way pileups, like this, will not have to happen…

Look for the Blogger Label

From the "So-we'll-blog-day-and-night, In-the-late-weary-hours, They-have-the-press, But-we-have-the-power." Department

This has been thrown around the blogging community, either in jest or in inspiration this past week:
Bloggers Consider Forming Labor Union

In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.

This is like two lousy ideas that go lousy together!

Global Warming Watch :: August 2007

We’re already saving the planet!

Thanks to such as the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Eco-Carbon-Pyramid-Scheme is indeed working, and we have corrected Global Warming Eco Carbon Damage from 9 years ago!

There was a Y2K Bug in the Global Warming Calculations, and the much “heralded” statement of “1998 was the warmest year on record” isn’t so true anymore. In fact, its not true at all.

The Tucson DMZ

Also from the “We ‘as headin’ fer bear on I-One-Oh” Department

In a frustrating blow to the Tucson commute, the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Vicinity is now suffering from a multi-year construction plan on our only highway; Interstate-10.

Its Three Year Mission, to expand from three lanes to four, both directions. But in the meantime cripple the West Side of town. The side where the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-Compound exists.

The Rocky Factor

From the "Not-Rocky-V" Department

One of the great constants in Philadelphian Culture, since the 1970s was the character Rocky Balboa.
Even in the surge of Personas like Vince Papale, chants of “Rocky, Rocky, Rocky” were heard thundering through the city streets of the City of Brotherly Love.

Even today, Rocky movies have found emergence out of the cradle of Philadelphian culture. Rocky was to Philadelphia what Uncle Sam was to the United States. It doesn’t take too long, when someone says “Yo! Adrian” to know where the speaker is quoting.

However, a good Philadelphian takes their Rocky seriously. Here was a character who personified the Philadelphian spirit. The Walk, the Attitude, the Drive, the emotion. It was all there, in a blockbuster movie role.

When Rocky Balboa came to theaters. I was excited. People who knew where my homeland was asked if I was going to see the new Rocky. And the question would inevitably come:

I’m still here. I didn’t go anywhere. I’ve just not been in a writing mood.

Hopefully, that will change soon.

Cisco

From the "Here's-to-another-trip-round-the-sun" Department

If you have been reading this site over the past few years, you are familiar with Cisco. Well, today is Cisco’s birthday.

Cisco was founded in 1984 by a group of computer scientists from Stanford University. Since the company’s inception, Cisco engineers have been prominent in advancing the development of IP- the basic language to communicate over the Internet and in private networks.

While a leading networking technology company, “Cisco” is also a resident of Ciscofornia and a frequent commenter here.

So wish him a good one, will you?

Book Review: Hornblower and the “Atropos”

Saturday I crossed off Hornblower and the Atropos off the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Reading List.

I received this book as a gift from The-Roommate-Formerly-Known-as-Matthew-Maynard, and finally got around to reading it. (I’m a little slow).

The Face Behind the Blog

From the "That-Picture-was-worth-about-a-word" Department

As you may have seen in the comments, Lynnette of the ever expanding Fun Times Guide pinged me with the meme The Face Behind the Blog.

Its a little gimmick to get the faceless writers more out in the open. And I’ve never let a bad idea stop me before, so why should I start now?

And since the Fun Times Guide is the single biggest referrer to Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com, The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com felt obliged to participate.
