What’s going on?

From the "Where-is "Glendale" and-what-is-the "University Of Phoenix?"" Department

Something “Super” is going on up the street; some kinds of big “goings on”.

I thought it might have to do with the fact that Hillary was in town yesterday, but she’s long gone this afternoon.

In what I liked to call Super Bowl 34 (Click the 34 for why), we saw an unexpected outcome.

The New [Jersey] Giants beat the spread.

Some highlights:

A Case for John McCain

From the "I'm-older-than-dirt, more-scars-than-Frankenstein." Department

All the Ultra-Right-Wing talking heads out there are slamming Arizona Senator, and Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain. Ann Coulter has called him more Liberal than Hillary Clinton. Tammy Bruce has called him Hillary Clinton in a dress.

I’m listening to the callers on the Talk Shows and they are just re-spouting the same talking points as the Pundits on Television.

  • McCain-Feingold (The Campaign Finance Reform Law) is an attack on Free Speech.
  • McCain-Kennedy (The Failed Illegal Immigration Bill) was simply an Amnesty Bill
  • The Gang of Fourteen (The Bi-Partisan Senator Group for Judicial Appointments) was a compromise of Conservative Values
  • And much much more..

I’m tired of the disinformation I’m hearing, and I’m going to make a lame attempt to set the record straight.

From the "Though-we-be-on-the-Far-Side-Of-The-World, This-ship-is-our-home. This-ship-is-England." Department

As you can tell from my Book Reviews, I’ve become a slight fan of the Aubrey-Maturin Book Series by Patrick O’Brian.

When I first started reading the series, Four Years Ago I picked up a copy of Master and Commander from a Used Bookstore (as all the current books were reprints framed after the Movie.) After I picked up Post Captain and H.M.S. Surprise the publisher reprinted the whole series, with newer covers, and a change in size.

Seeing I was only 3 books into the 20 book series, I had a choice to make:

96 Years

I’m always astonished how the world celebrates the Statehood of the mighty-mighty State of Arizona.

I appreciate the gesture, and all; but chocolates, roses and greeting cards are a bit much, don’t you think?

Book Review: Beat to Quarters

Filed under: Books,ReviewsJeremy @ 10:57:20 PM Tags:

Today, I crossed off the Horatio Hornblower book Beat To Quarters a.k.a The Happy Return from the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Reading List.

I received this book as a gift from Dad, a couple of Christmases ago, and finally got around to reading it. But at this point, I’m now without additional Hornblower novels in my possession.

It is raining Oil!

From the "NO-STAR-WARS-FOR-OIL!" Department

From the Discovery Channel

It seems the Cassini mission discovered Titan’s Surface Organics Surpass Oil Reserves on Earth

Saturn’s orange moon Titan has hundreds of times more liquid hydrocarbons than all the known oil and natural gas reserves on Earth, according to new data from NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. The hydrocarbons rain from the sky, collecting in vast deposits that form lakes and dunes.

Book Review: Casino Royale

Filed under: Books,ReviewsJeremy @ 10:51:30 AM Tags:

As if I’m not reading too many book series already, I thought I’d try Ian Fleming’s James Bond series, beginning with Casino Royale, which I just crossed off the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Reading List

I wasn’t too impressed with the short novel, but I’m told the series does get better, and this was Fleming’s first try at the genre.
