Disenfranchised!!!!

Filed under: LocalJeremy @ 2:40:01 PM
From the "A-common-sense-measure-to-protect-the-security-and-integrity-of-elections" Department

Today, was the second Primary for the State of Arizona, and like the good citizen than I am, I went to vote. (I’m glad I did, because I wanted my voice to be heard for Arizona District Seven, as there are two Republicans vying for that seat, and one is a real jerk.)

But leave it to The-Evil-Doctor-Merlin-Channing-Lowe-Jr., I was disenfranchised again!

Stick it in your Narrative

From the "Talking-in-the-third-person, in-the-first-person" Department

Question: What does “The Narrative” mean to you?

I’m asking, cause I’m not sure what it means, myself.

One of the things that stands out to me in this Presidential Campaign is the phrase, “The Narrative”.

…the choice of Biden really changes the Narrative of the Obama campaign…
…McCain chose Palin to add her family’s Narrative to the campaign…
…Barack’s Narrative is growing up in a middle class black family. But history shows he grew up in a middle class white family…
…The Narrative in Iraq…
…The Narrative of this Convention…
…The Narrative of my Carbon Footprint
…The Narrative of my views on your Narrative…

From my limited perspective, it appears to be something that was synthesized by the reaction to the Obama campaign, copied by the McCain Campaign, and now expected by any public/political figure.

Departmental Oversight

From the "Is-this-the-place-to-start-a-new-Department?" Department

RSS Readers, delete this one from your feeds NOW!

After my 2000th post, I looked back on a few of my older posts and was reminded of my Department of Departments post a ways back, where I listed all the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Departments to date.

I felt the need to do it again. So I went back to EACH and EVERY post, and typed them all out on THIS article. It was a grueling process, and I hope you all appreciate it.

For those of you who came in late, I like my Departments. I strive to keep each one unique and kind of witty; either in a secondary title to the article, or some inside joke that some regular readers might appreciate. While others are quotes, and others are lyrics to songs which could, or could not, be related to the substance of the article. Either way, there is quite a diversity of Departments at Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com.

If you wanted to count these, there are now 1188 different departments on Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com; all of them micromanaged.

Still, only one Editor, though.

Global Warming Watch: Sunspots

From the "Looks-like-the-DayStar-has-been-using-Proactive" Department

This is probably bad news for the Climate Change Global Warming acolytes, but the Star at the center of our Solar System, the original source of all our energy, temperature, and light, is acting unusual.

Do you see what’s wrong with this picture.

Or this one?

I’ll tell you, there are no Sunspots.

Drudging Obama

Filed under: PontificationsJeremy @ 10:40:14 AM
From the "Pick-up-the-pieces" Department

This sample of a screen capture, from the Drudge Report, sums up what a lot of people cannot really put into words.

There are complaints out there, about Barack Obama. While those complaints are accused of being racist, the complainers cannot articulate what it is that they distrust Obama for, it is a little complicated.

I’m not at all concerned about the first “slip”, it’s just dumb. Obama is not a Muslim, no matter what the critics suggest.

The second item is very silly, even for Obama, you wonder why he brings it up. (This little tidbit never made it into his two autobiographies)

The third item just echoes the things he has said about the War in Iraq (Getting out, Surge wont work, failure), NAFTA (ending it), Energy (No Drilling, Drilling, No ideas.) etc.

The fourth item shows him back peddling.

But add them all together, and you get what Obama opponents are concerned about.

The Fifth item could be partially explained by the first four. It is hard to take Barack Obama as a serious candidate, as Steven Green suggests.

Names in lights

From the "Local-boy-makes-good" Department

Yesterday, I went to lunch at Frankie’s, for some post-losing-to-the-Dallas-Cowboys Cheesesteak comfort food, and I was greeted with smiles all around. (Not that smiles don’t normally happen, but folks were more giddy than usual.)

You see, a few weeks ago, there was a Sandwich War in Tucson, moderated by the Arizona Daily Star, and readers were supposed to comment and share their favorite sandwich shop. Frankie was encouraging patrons to share if they thought Frankie’s was the best of Tucson. (Of course, I did)

I went to the AZ-Stat-Net website and shared a few lines on why Frankie’s is so frickin’ awesome. A few days later, I got an E-mail asking if my comments could be used in the print edition.

That came out yesterday. And Frankie and company were excited to share the article with me.
