Rather brooding title, isn’t it?

Well, the geniuses at Despair Inc. have come up with some new Demotivators.

Republicans are pissing me off

From the "So-far-right-the-buses-don't-run" Department

Nope, that isn’t a joke. The title is telling the truth.

Once upon a time, I thought the Republican “base” operated in Common Sense, they were slow to anger, and steadfast in their philosophy of conservative values and ideals.

As of late, the Republican Party (I’m not talking about the politicians or the Party Officials, I’m talking about the constituents) are revealing their ugly side.

And I don’t like it.

Politicians vs. Leaders

Filed under: PontificationsJeremy @ 12:34:00 PM
From the "He's-gotta-be-sure And-it's-gotta-be-soon And-he's-gotta-be-larger-than-life" Department

This is a familiar subject in politics, as well as in business and cubicle jungles. The dichotomy between the selfless leader and the crooked politician.

I’ve opined about this subject back in Modernist #3, but I was listening to a pair of amateur conservative internet radio hosts debating the subject of Republicans and the 700-Billion-Dollar-Bailout, and one brought up this point.

The Modernist #20: On Rights, Privileges, and Responsibilities

The Modernist Papers

From the transcript of the second of the 2008 Presidential Debates:

Brokaw: Quick discussion. Is health care in America a privilege, a right, or a responsibility?

Sen. McCain?

McCain: I think it’s a responsibility, in this respect, in that we should have available and affordable health care to every American citizen, to every family member. And with the plan that — that I have, that will do that.

Obama: Well, I think it should be a right for every American. In a country as wealthy as ours, for us to have people who are going bankrupt because they can’t pay their medical bills

So what is a Right, a Privilege, and a Responsibility?

Obamania

From the "Incorrect-but-Accurate" Department

I guess I’m a glutton for punishment because I’m still on the Pro-McCain Forums. Today, there was a panic attack, because the news shows Obama speaking at a gathering in Ohio. Behind him was the United States flag, flanked on each side by this flag:

You could not stop the accusations that Obama had defiled the primary United Statesian symbol to his own crazy cult of personality. How can he put an O in the blue field?!

Book Review: Treason’s Harbour

Filed under: Books,ReviewsJeremy @ 3:34:52 PM Tags:

I just crossed Patrick O’Brian’s Treason’s Harbour off of the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Reading List.

So far I’ve read nine of the Aubrey-Maturin Series, and I’m safe to say this is easily one of my top four favorites of O’Brian’s work.

Also, this is a notification that I will be starting #10, Far Side of the World (The halfway point) shortly.

It didn’t get much better, but the novel significantly improved upon Casino Royale.

It wasn’t the 76ers.
It was the Philadelphia Phillies who brought a World Championship (back) to Philadelphia.
