One Blog Article, everyday for a month. (And it was a 31 Day Month, no leap year antics for The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com.

User Pages

From the "Useless-features-feature" Department

On a whim, this weekend, I was tinkering with the PHP pages in WordPress and introduced “Author Pages” to the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com theme.

See, the software looks at the User List, which is a Database Table, and creates a Page, just like it does for the content you are reading right now.

I briefly mentioned it here, with Cisco’s Profile.

The functionality of the page include all the posts written by said Author. (RIght now there are only three Authors who have written posts on Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com. THREE you say? Yes. Read on.) There are currently 25 users.

Obama Derangement Syndrome

From the "They-call-it-Public-School-for-a-reason" Department

There is a little hullabaloo, or more of a kerfuffle, around the recent news that President Barack Obama will be addressing most of the Public School children on September 8th, in a 15 minutes address.

Before the speech is even released to the public, many on the right are angry. And I’m disappointed in their reaction.

Partially, I think this anger is not about what is being done, but that Barack Obama is doing it.

Jeremy’s Test Bar

From the "Like-America's-Test-Kitchen-but-with-more-alcohol" Department

I love experimenting with new tasty adult beverage, usually people suggest something to me, sometimes it it too elaborate to be tasty, but other times, it is something simple and tastes neat.

Over the past month I’ve tinkered with The Chocolate Martini, and I’ve come up with a great build that can be easily customized to taste. In addition, I’ve recently learned of an old tasty beverage with an adult twist.

Blogging Streaks :: Correction

From the "Lies, Damn-Lies, Statistics, and Dumb-Looks" Department

When I started the NaBloPoMo challenge, last month, I claimed that Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com never had a full month of Blog Posts before.

Well, the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Statisticians found an error with The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com‘s logic. (It was a long argument where the Statistics Geeks were calling the Editors names, and well, things got violent. Lawsuits are pending, but we did finally get down to the truth.)

TV Review: The Shield

From the "Good-cop-and-bad-cop-have-left-for-the-day. I'm-a-different-kind-of-cop" Department

I just finished watching the last DVD of the seven seasons of the FX Show, The Shield.

It wasn’t family friendly television, but it was griping and intriguing.

After a seven season arc, there was only 89 episodes, and it ended literally at the start of the writer’s strike, but it ended as it began. Gritty, and in your face, and plot driven entertainment.

Labor Day Movies: Who Knew?

Four Years ago, when The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com wrote the article for Labor Day Movies, we had no idea that people would take it seriously.

We wrote it seriously, but the premise was a little silly. I mean, we have Christmas Movies, Thanksgiving Movies, even Halloween Movies, but the idea of Labor Day movies seemed silly, to us at least. But we liked our list.

Little did we know, every Labor Day, Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com would get a surge in Searchy Fun for the exact phrase: “Labor Day Movies

The Public Option

Filed under: PontificationsJeremy @ 3:52:26 AM
From the "Public-is-not-an-Option" Department

There has been a lot of talk about this “Public Option” in the various proposals for Health Care Reform.

One day its on the table, the next it is off the table. One side demands it, one side will not tolerate it. (And I’m just talking about Democrats here. I wont even get into what the Republicans say, because really, it doesn’t matter they have no voice in the Congress.)

Here is my take on the Public Option; most of this is my own thesis, as I’ve not heard this line of discussion anywhere.

It is sometimes hard to believe, given the high ticket items in the political realm, that eight years ago, we were attacked.

Is it a testament of our resolve, as a nation, to move on?
Or is it a testament of our low attention span?

The Manhattan Project

From the "So-is-this-a-bomb, or-a-cocktail?" Department
Can’t anyone here just make a simple drink?” – Vice President Harry S. Truman, at the Manhattan Project, date unknown.

One of my secret quests in the world of mixology is to bring back the Manhattan.

The Manhattan is a fine cocktail, built from one of the most manliest family of tasty adult beverages, the Whiskey, Bourbon, Rye neighborhood of your liquor cabinet.
A cocktail made with Whiskey, as opposed to Gin or Vodka? The Martini better start listening for footsteps. Cause it is about to get beat up with a broken Jack Daniels bottle.
(No, far from it.)

How did this robust cocktail become so effeminate?

One of the websites I infrequently enjoy is The People’s Cube. It is usually a pretty imaginative political parody site, with a faux-Communist/Marxist twist.

One of their marketing gimmicks is The People’s Cube Rubix Cube, the “favorite game of the Progressive Elites”.

Acting 101

From the "Words-being-vehicles-for-emotions" Department

I was reminded of a part of my life history, as I was reading some Past Posts. (Amazing what has happened to me, emotionally in five years.)

Anyways, one of the more emotionally interesting experiences of my life was a class I took in Community College, somewhere in the neighborhood of Spring of 1995.
I was a Science Major, so I concentrated on Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science classes, especially in the evening. It was also the time in my life where I learned that I love to write, and it was then that the kernel was planted for this very blog. I also got a good dose of politics.
But I took some artistic classes, one of which was sitting in with the Jazz Ensemble for one semester, but another was a course I took, Acting 101.

You may recall my rant, earlier about my frustration with iTunes updates, and where it left me.

Well, I was attempting to download a free Starbucks Music Video from the iStore, and got a message saying that I needed to upgrade.

*sigh*

I didn’t notice that iTunes had put out version 9. So I decided to press my luck with this Russian Roulette of updates.

But now, Community Organizations are part of our vocabulary.

Yesterday, as I mentioned before, was my first “real” day in the Regional-Third-Party-Call Center.

One thing that is unique (at least in my cubicle jungle experience) is that all the phone monkeys have varied shifts, and because of that we don’t have permanent desks and we “hot seat” our stations. So you have no idea who your neighbors are going to be from day to day.

Which is all fine and good, so moving out of the training section of the call floor to the production section of the floor; this was the first day I had to pick a temporary seat.

Partway through my shift, one of my neighbors left his station and was replaced by another. I froze when I heard him say his name to his clients.

“Hello, my name is Carlos.”

CARLOS!!!
