So its Labor Day, most of the readers of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com have the day off. If they were smart, they would not be reading this page right now.

However, if they were smarter, they would be reading this page on Labor Day.

The REALLY REALLY smart ones will have found this page via Google, once Google crawls this mindless banter.

Because The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com are proud to present the official Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Labor Day Movie list.

Awhile back, we presented you with The Top Three Christmas Movies of All Time. In the same spirit, we present:

The Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Top Labor Day Movies

The rules for the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Top Labor Day Movies are simple. They have to deal with Labor Day, either the day, or the origin of the day (Which is because of the Labor Unions).

(This list is subject to change.)

  1. On the Waterfront
Marlon Brando vs. the corrupt Longshoreman Union Boss. He “coulda been a contender!” and he was. It is the official Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com top Labor Day Movie of all time!
  2. Hoffa
Jack Nicholson is Jimmy Hoffa. This Biopic of the Teamster Union Boss is essential Labor Day viewing.
  3. Gung Ho
A bit dated, but East Management meets Western Labor.
  4. The Replacements
Keanu Reeves in his almost-but-not-quite-completely-unlike-”Ted Logan”-role, as a never-has-been quaterback who crosses the NFL-player’s-union picket line. And its the start of Football season.
  5. Grosse Pointe Blank
John Cusak fights against Dan Aykroyd’s dream of starting a Proffessional Killer’s Union
  6. F.I.S.T.
Sylvester Stallone is an up-and-comming Teamster in the 1930s; becoming more ruthless with every step.

We’ve never seen this movie, but it fits the “Union Label”

  7. Blue Collar
Richard Prior and Harvey Keitel attempt some Blue Collar crime and attempt to lift the Labor Union treasury.

We haven’t seen this one either.

So if you are looking to fill the void that is the Labor Day Holiday, try curling up with one of these classics!

Share and Enjoy!

  1. I should add Matewan to this list.

A mining community organized a Labor Union and fights against the mining company. An effort which transcends racial prejudices and nationalities.
