Regime Change in Canada?

What did I miss yesterday? Canada desolved its legislature?

Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin dissolved the House of Commons Tuesday and elections were set following Parliament’s vote of no confidence in the government.

Martin went to the official residence of Governor-General Michaelle Jean, representative of head of state Queen Elizabeth, and announced that she had granted his request to dissolve Parliament and that the election would be on Jan. 23.

The election will be held for all 308 seats in the lower House of Commons. The seats in the upper Senate are appointed.

On Monday, the Conservative Party teamed up with the New Democratic and Bloc Quebecois parties to bring down the government, claiming Martin’s ruling Liberal Party had lost its moral authority. Recent polls have given the Liberals a slight lead over the Conservatives, with the New Democrats in third place.

Reading deeper into this, it appears that Captain Ed of CaptainsQuarters, was a stimulus in this political meltdown. Seems Free Speech has run amok in Canada.

OTTAWA — An unassuming 42-year-old call-centre manager and Star Trek fan from Minneapolis, Minn., has provoked a political firestorm in Canada.

Ed Morrissey — Captain Ed to his friends — published on the weekend what no Canadian is allowed to print or broadcast. On his Internet blog, he posted testimony before the Gomery commission that is subject to a publication ban.

  2. But, when we invade we must have our troops outfitted with bilingual signs on their tanks so as to be in compliance with the the political correctness of Canada.

  3. I defer to your expertise on the matter, but I don’t believe you give a vote of no-confidence to a whole party… it’s only to Martin and his cabinet, correct? Rumor has it the new candidate for the liberal party is the likely winner in the new election.

Besides… I thought you said Canada didn’t exist? Is your blog headed the way of The Onion?
