Disgruntled

George Conoway posted the following on his Blog:

The State of the GOP, 2006
John Fund, after discussing how disgruntled the GOP base may be, has it exactly right: “Republicans have appeared to the world to be as unprincipled and rudderless as the politicians they campaigned against back in 1994. Unless they change course dramatically in the seven months between now and Election Day, they may well find themselves facing the same fate as the Democratic political dinosaurs of that year that they replaced.” I’m disgruntled, too, and I’m going to get it all of my chest this morning: I’ve never voted for a Democrat in a general election in my life, and I don’t expect to anytime soon, but it’s been impossible for me over the past couple of years to get enthused about the Republican party. I voted for President Bush twice, and contributed to his campaign twice, but held my nose when I did it the second time. I don’t consider myself a Republican any longer. Thanks to this Administration and the Republicans in Congress, the Republican Party today is the party of pork-barrel spending, Congressional corruption — and, I know folks on this web site don’t want to hear it, but deep down they know it’s true — foreign and military policy incompetence. Frankly, speaking of incompetence, I think this Administration is the most politically and substantively inept that the nation has had in over a quarter of a century. The good news about it, as far as I’m concerned, is that it’s almost over.

Let me re-emphasize what clicked with me:

I’m disgruntled, too, and I’m going to get it all of my chest this morning: I’ve never voted for a Democrat in a general election in my life, and I don’t expect to anytime soon, but it’s been impossible for me over the past couple of years to get enthused about the Republican party.

So where does that leave me?

It is frustrating, to say the least.
Like I hinted over at Two-Headed-Monster, the Republican Revolution seemed to fizzle as soon as they re-captured to the White House. And all the talk of reform, and turning back the clock on all the Congressional Corruption just died. It was as if removing Democrats from power was enough.

Well, it isn’t.

The Federal Government is still this burdensome draconian demagogue. It’s big, bloated, and uncontrolled, and in some cases oppressive (I speak of the rules and regulations the government puts on businesses, corporations, and even universities.)

The Republicans said they were going to fix these problems, but in the end, it seems, the “Problems” they were talking about was only the Democratic control. Now that the Republicans are in control, the problems they were going to fix are not problems anymore.

Does this make me a democrat? (*Scoffs* Yeah right.)
Does this put me in a majority. (Maybe. I’m not in step with the Republicans, as they are. I agree with half of their philosophy, still; but I don’t agree with what action they are not taking.)
However, I do think that more people agree with me than disagree with me.

  1. Hey Jer, LTNS….I watched Office Space tonight (finally) and thought of you. Even though I’ve never had the opportunity to work in a cubicle (thank the Lord) there are insipid little similarities of “work life” I could relate to from my teaching experiences… So glad to be working from home!

Anyway, just wanted to say hi again :)
