Granted, it wasn’t to honor my State of the Geek address, but I truely enjoied watching this clip of President and Commander-in-Chief George W. Bush speaking with the Troops in Baghdad.

Listen to those troops cheer when Dubya says they will remain on the offensive.

Booya!

  1. Just curious… what do you get from this? Maybe I’m just jaded, but the timing of that particular applause felt very staged.

On a not so unrelated note, I’m waiting for the day that the Iraqi government grows it’s own spine and stands up to the US on something. Anything really. I think it’s the only way the Iraqi people will start respecting it and thereby the only way we can get out and the only way we will have successfully helped establish a stable and even friendly government. Without that opposition, I think we are at a stalemate. The people are split between what is seen as a puppet government and violent killers who they likely have much more in common with. From all I gather, we are not seen as heroes. We are the lesser of two evils.

But until the new government stands up for itself specifically AGAINST us (not violently… just philosophically), they will continue to be the Fredo Corleone of the world.

  2. I like seeing our troops, especially our Deployed troops, happy.

The hoots and hollars seemed genuine to me.
