So much to comment about, but so little urge to write on my part.

So here is some news of the day, with little Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Commentary

McKinney Fails To Show Up At Two Debates
    Tue Jul 11 2006 11:10:09 ET

Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D) failed to appear at two televised debates over the weekend, fueling criticism from two opponents who are challenging the controversial incumbent in a July 18 primary in the Georgia’s 4th District.

CONGRESSIONAL QUARTERLY reports: DeKalb County Commissioner Hank Johnson and architectural firm project manager John Coyne, who are challenging McKinney, debated Saturday on WSB-TV and also participated in a second debate Friday that was sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club and which will air tonight at 7 p.m. Johnson’s campaign said that McKinney’s absence was a “slap in the face” to her constituents.

    Developing…

Maybe she had a hard time getting through Securty?

  1. So I briefly followed the Frisch thing on Protein Wisdom and watched Malkin read the commnets over on Hot Air.

Here’s my problem: Obviously Frisch is at the very least a nut and at the worst a criminal. But bloggers and commentors who are in an uproar are painting her as a poster child for all liberals. Right. And Fred Phelps is a fine example of your standard conservative.

Then there’s the complaining that the right wing blogs were the only ones to speak out against her. How many liberals read Protein Wisdom? How many conservative blogs are denouncing Phelps?

This is all so flipping childish. Yes, on BOTH sides. We’re all so wrapped up in blame we can’t get anything done!

OOOOOO!!! I feel a rant coming on! [grumbles to self and staggers off]

  2. I don’t know enough about the subject to have an opinion. So I’ll let the other blogs sort it out.

  3. I am the author of the post at Independent Sources that Jeremy references above. In answer to one of your first questions I have never heard of Fred Phelps, if he said anything as stupid as Deb Frisch I would be condeming him too. On the rest of it it isnt outrage and it isnt that I see her as a posterchild for all liberals, it is just that I don’t like her her.

  4. Ok… I blame Jeremy for my semi-rant above and consequential bad mood on my drive home. If he had said “independent sources has a good analysis” and linked you there I wouldn’t have had a problem. Instead I missed your links and went to his link to Hot Air. So my comments were directed at Malkin and many of the commentors on her video.

Having read yours, I appreciate the stance you took… and was more than a little puzzled and annoyed by the Mario person. But no need to explain.

Once again, Jeremy was to blame! (stinkin Jeremy)

Not that it’s an excuse, but I’m largely ignorant of the blogosphere and all it’s curious inhabitants. That was my first glimpse of Malkin, hadn’t read too much of your stuff either Chad. I don’t think I have any left wing spaces on my reading list (unless Slate counts). I can count the blogs I read regularly on two fingers and blogs I browse occasionally on maybe two hands (and frankly most of those are “gee I wish I could get around to reading those once in a while”). Has a lot to do with time, but also a lot to do with seemingly constantly running across generalizing, dismissive sentiment like I found on Hot Air.

[Fred Phelps was the guy leading anti-gay rants and protests in the middle of funerals for American soldiers... among other things. But I have no more beef with him than any other nutjob. He was just an example that I thought the left might likely point to in blustery outrage as an example of those damn "Reps".]

  5. No need to apologize to me Cisco, I just wanted to make clear where I stood.

Now that you have clarified who Fred Phelps is let me say that yes he is a loon. My confusion came about because I have only seen a female spokesperson for that group and they pissed me off so bad that I refuse to listen to them when they are on the news anymore.

Michelle Malkin lately has had a pretty strident tone that I tend to find offputting also, but part of that is the nature of the beast. A blog isn’t like a newspaper and I think you have about 20 seconds to capture a readers attention. Especially if you are making a living at it like Michelle Malkin is. That tends to lead to some abruptness.

  6. Cisco, your bad mood was caused by Traffic.
Are you saying your traffic in Ciscofornia is my fault too?

Thanks for stopping by, Chad! I like the work you publish at Independent Sources, which is why your two articles were my primary links in that line item.

  7. As for Fred Phelps, I don’t consider him and his band of wackos Conservative. I don’t even consider them Christian (though they might tote that banner.)

As for Conservative rebuke, even Sean Hannity has vocally denounced their cause. (So much so that I’d wish he’d stop giving them air time on his Radio and TV Shows)

  8. I think you’re missing my point Jer. I don’t see how you can deny he is either conservative or christian, but I didn’t for a moment think he represented the beliefs or actions of conservatives or christians as a whole. Yet that seems to be the sentiment about Frisch by Malkin and her commentors.

Also Hannity is not a blogger. I asked how many right wing blogs denouced Phelps. I’m asking if conservative bloggers gave the treatment to Phelps that Malkin and her commentors expect Liberal bloggers to now give to Frisch. Did you? Did Malkin? I wouldn’t think any less of either one of you if you didn’t. I wouldn’t expect you to. He’s a nut! And an embarrasment. And I would probably agree that giving him “airtime” is not helpful. Yet Malkin and her commentors expected the reverse for liberal bloggers against Frisch. Which seems like an even less realistic expectation since I assume their only exposure to her rant would be by reading right wing blogs like Protein Wisdom, Malkin, etc.

Phelps and Frisch are fringe idiots. It becomes very convenient to attach them to the larger cause you disagree with, but it is false logic.

Frisch is a creep. Frisch is a liberal. Liberals are creeps.

See? Doesn’t work. But it looks nice on paper.
