Global Warming Watch :: August 2007
We’re already saving the planet!
Thanks to such as the Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com Eco-Carbon-Pyramid-Scheme is indeed working, and we have corrected Global Warming Eco Carbon Damage from 9 years ago!
There was a Y2K Bug in the Global Warming Calculations, and the much “heralded” statement of “1998 was the warmest year on record” isn’t so true anymore. In fact, its not true at all.
Sources:
NASA has now silently released corrected figures, and the changes are truly astounding. The warmest year on record is now 1934. 1998 (long trumpeted by the media as record-breaking) moves to second place. 1921 takes third. In fact, 5 of the 10 warmest years on record now all occur before World War II.
So it appears that the 1998 record was tainted, and has been expunged, and the previous record holder returns to 1934.
In other Global Warming News, from Wizbang:
Global Warming is on Hiatus
Yes, Global Warming wasn’t severe enough, and has been not as active.
Natural weather variations have offset the effects of global warming for the past couple of years and will continue to keep temperatures flat through 2008, a study released Thursday said.
But global warming will begin in earnest in 2009, and a couple of the years between 2009 and 2014 will eclipse 1998, the warmest year on record to date, in the heat stakes, British meteorologists said.
“In earnest”
Who knew that Global Warming had a conscience?
But the good news, 1998 is nothing to worry about. 1934 is still the meanest year on record.

You need to get on board this tetrahedron scheme, so you too can be frolicking with healthy polar bears atop Earth’s reforested glaciers.
Think of the children.

The corrected data was for the US surface air temperature,
not for the global surface air temperature. See
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/
The warmest year on record for the Earth was 2005. Then 1998,
2002, 2003, 2006, 2004, 2001, 1997, 1995, 1990, 1991, 2000, 1999,
1988, 1996, 1987… you get the idea. R-squared for linear trend of
0.55 C/century is 0.73; in other words, a very strong trend.
The US record years are 1934, 1998, 1921, 2006, 1931, 1999, etc. A
*lot* more variation (R-squared = 0.14) but as the trendline
indicates (0.48 C/century), the US trend is in line with the global trend.

Going back to your eco-credit pyramid scheme, does that mean I don’t have to pay you $9.95 a week to offset my carbon footprint?

So how come your pyramid scheme isn’t illegal? Answer.. it’s a tetrahedron scheme.
Comment by Chan — August 10, 2007 @ 9:04:35 PM
Exactly, Chan.
Its a tetrahedron scheme. Completely different.

Regarding the Global vs. US surface temperature, NASA’s US Graphs (C & D) were updated 8-7-2007 due to a software bug (Jan 2000). Graphs A – C haven’t been updated since 1-8-2007.
Check out Steve McIntyre, of Toronto at http://www.climateaudit.org/?cat=50 Steve is probably responsible for uncovering the bug.
I’ve been entertained by the goings on at http://www.surfacestations.org They have 999 left to survey (222 so far) but what they found so far relative to measuring surface temperatures has been unbelievable. Such things as relocating air conditioners next to surface monitoring sensors. If anyone is interested, they are looking for volunteers to check out sites near by. Steve also used this information in his published letter to NASA.
If the data in the US is this bad, I would hate to see what flaws might exist in the global data. It appears that Gore’s hockey stick graph is also broken since his data came from the flawed numbers.

[...] Also Previously Discussed. Another of his close allies is Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chairman of the IPCC, who recently startled a university audience in Australia by claiming that global temperatures have recently been rising “very much faster” than ever, in front of a graph showing them rising sharply in the past decade. In fact, as many of his audience were aware, they have not been rising in recent years and since 2007 have dropped. [...]
