  1. Saving Private Ryan came close, but I don’t think I’ve cried for any of those movies, especially not Star Wars IV. Of course, I’ve not seen about half of them, but seriously – how can anyone cry with a line like “ButIwasgoingintoToschiStationtopickupsomepowerconverters!”

  2. I’ve not seen eight of them; however, I tend to agree with Matt. There’s a few good ones on there that I can see how they made the list but most of them… You’ve got to wonder who/where the poll was done.

  3. I haven’t seen 9 of them. I’ve never even heard of Little Caesar (thought it was a pizza place).

I’ve been teary in movies… but I really can’t remember which. Pretty sure it wasn’t any of these. Maybe Death Wish 3.

  4. The Notebook should most definitely be on this list, every guy friend of mine has said they cried watching that movie, and The majority of them are soldiers, or on college sports teams!

  8. Men cry watching E.T.? I mean, yeah, I cried because, back in the day, I spent lawn mowing money to see the film. The loss of my money and what I got in return brought tears to my eyes for sure.

    Comment by Wes — November 12, 2007 @ 11:36:39 PM

  9. There are 9 of them that I do not know. Field of Dreams however gets me every time. And I do agree with the other posts I cant even think of what would make a guys cry and most of these. Rudy I can see, E.T. I can see, Field of Dreams for sure, Saving Private Ryan for sure, Top Gun maybe, and Major League maybe. Other than that no way.

  10. Like most lists, this list is a crock. It all depends on who you are. More recent movies such as “Family Stone” and “The Thing about my Folks” are good ones as well. Nothing like pulling on the heart strings of the family to get you every time.

  11. Oh, and I forgot, “Reign over me” highly recomended for a good cry.

  12. the one movie that tears me up every is Brian’s Song. i dare anybody anybody to watch it without crying.(orignal version with james caan and billy d williams)

  13. And how about “Million Dollar Baby” did guys watch that?

  14. Alright, here are movies that made The Editors of Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com cry:

[I have to admit, over the past ten years, I've gotten more and more teary]

    • Saving Private Ryan – On the List
    • Rocky II
    • Gladiator (surprisingly – the ending when they carry Maximus away gets me every time)
    • Life is Beautiful
    • Field of Dreams – On the List
    • Mr. Smith Goes to Washington – On The List
    • The Shawshank Redemption – On the List
    • Red (Rouge)
    • A Beautiful Mind
    • The Jason Vorhees Massacre Part 3D – (Hey, you see G.B. and me DYING in the end.)

Of the movies you mentioned, G.B., I’ve only seen Million Dollar Baby, and I didn’t cry.

    Comment by Jeremy — November 13, 2007 @ 4:33:55 PM

  15. I think Beautiful Mind might have gotten me. But… Gladiator??? I guess I was so annoyed by the spasmatic cameraman I would have preferred seeing everyone in the film die.

    Comment by Cisco — November 13, 2007 @ 4:44:28 PM

  16. Yeah Jer!! Bam, you pull that out of no where. My dying scene was terrible, cause I couldn’t stop laughing. But yeah it was a tear jerker. Joe and most other people don’t get it.

Well, I cry at most movies that have to do with the family highs and lows.

    Comment by G.B. — November 14, 2007 @ 7:32:26 AM

  17. I cried at the “The Jason Vorhees Massacre Part 3D” but it wasn’t because of any sentiment. Is that the one Freddie took a whiz in the woods or the one Mom ran over Dan?

    Comment by Dad — November 14, 2007 @ 5:14:45 PM

  18. Yes, 3D had Mom when she was afraid of getting arrested. As far as the whizzing, I can’t remember, cause he did it often.

    Comment by G.B. — November 15, 2007 @ 7:14:01 AM

  19. The tree deification gag was used 2.5 times.
In Part I, Jon a.k.a. “Jon” performed it first.
In Part II, no trees were harmed in the film. (No, wait, I uprooted one.)
In Part 3D, Brian a.k.a. “Freddie” performed it, in homage to the “Jon” scene, which was immediately followed by Greg, a.k.a. “Jason” in parody.)

And Mom vehicularly attacked Greg a.k.a. “???” (I forget his character’s name) in Part 3D – (“Dan” was dead by Part II.)

Mom had Two Cameo appearances, Dad had one.

  20. Way back in the dark ages, when I was 21, My best friend and I dragged our dates to see Bambi. They complained the whole way in about seeing a kid’s movie.

And they didn’t say anything on the way out. They couldn’t, they were too ‘choked up’.

    Comment by Aunt Margaret — November 26, 2007 @ 7:00:32 PM

  21. I must say that of all the lists that people make I haven’t seen “A River Runs Through it”, this being one of the most tear jerking movies I’ve seen. Also the North and South Book I.

    Comment by MD.Fleming — August 12, 2008 @ 4:05:30 AM

  22. Ok, The Patriot when the little girl finally speaks and tells her daddy not to go….gets me every time

  24. Where the HELL is Brian’s Song? That and Old Yeller are the only two movies I am guaranteed to cry during. Old Yeller is a ridiculously good 5th or 6th date movie just because of this.

    Comment by Mikhail — November 18, 2008 @ 10:23:23 PM

  25. I would really like to know if anyone actually cried during Major League. I mean, I’m assuming we’re referring to the part where Dorn gives his little inspiration speech to Charlie Sheen’s character, but that certainly does not make me want to cry. How does one man having his wife cheat on him but looking past that in order to want to win a baseball game make someone cry?

  26. It’s the music.
