Super Bowl Extra-Large IntraVenous
Super Bowl XLIV was either going to be a close game, or a blowout, depending on if the NFC Champion showed up. In the first quarter, I think most people thought it was going to be more of the latter.
But then another team showed up wearing New Orleans uniforms.
And it was the team we were hoping to see, the aggressive New Orleans Saints, and it was the team that, in the end, won the Super Bowl.
My favorite play was the onside kick to start the second half.
The play that generated the loudest reaction was the Manning interception, and return for a touchdown.
As Cisco suggested, Sean Peyton brought the right play book to the game.
Some Observations
- Best use of Betty White: Snickers
- Best use of Abe Vigoda: Snickers
- Worst use of AutoTune: Bud Light
- Best Use of Brett Favre: Hyundai
- Best Abuse of people: Budweiser
- Worst use of Super Bowl XX: Boost Mobile
- Best use of the Manning Face: Peyton Manning
- Favorite Commercial: None
And I don’t know if Pete Townshend was really playing guitar at halftime. But WOW, that Fender was singing in a unique and impressive way.
I also appreciated the band covering the theme to the CBS series CSI.
And I also appreciated the lack of a Rent-a-Mob crowd on the field during the performance.
But I was also hoping for more equipment carnage, like a Fender going through a Stage Amp. Ah well.
Odd though, something happened in the break before the fourth quarter, after the CBS plug for the Masters. It was local advertising, and there was no audio.
But most importantly, The Beloved Philadelphia Eagles are, once again, Undefeated.
But Aside: YAY to the Saints!
Take THAT Peyton Manning!

Though I am loathe to admit it, I actually liked the E-trade baby ad (and keep liking them… “shankapotomous” is permanently in my lexicon). Otherwise the ads were garbage. One word: Charles Barkley.
And The Who were terrrrrrrrrrible. The songs were played so badly that I thought for sure they were live… until Daltrey Missed his cue by quite a bit on one line. Prince still delivered the best show in recent memory for my mind. Springsteen was pretty awesome too.

Hi Jeremy! Thanks for sharing your pontifications on the Super Bowl. I did not watch this year as I now live in a rather far away place known as Istanbul, Turkey. Had I been home I most certainly would have watched as my fiance (yes, that’s right I am now engaged) would have made certain that we watch together. I plan to make a trip to Tucson this summer when I return for 2 months before coming back for a 2nd school year here in Istanbul…. maybe you can meet my fiance then. May you have a wonderful day and Lord bless you : )

Perhaps if Nancy had lived in Constantinople she could have watched the Superbowl.
