Strong Bad Sings and other type hits
Its here!
I thought I’d give a review of the CD, as it recently came in the mail, and I’ve been conversing with my co-workers over it.
There are 20 Tracks, all of them are unique, and quite well done. Lots of variety here.
The CD is from the Harmless Junk, Inc. under the Videlectrix Media Label.
- TROGDOR
- The most anticipated track on the CD, they bring it out first. I assume this is performed by the Brother’s Strong (Strong Bad on Lead Guitar and Main Vocals, Strong Mad on Bass, and The Cheat on the keyboards.) The song is remastered from its original rendition in the Dragon episode with a guitar solo with Strong Bad Commentary.
- The system is down
- A completely remixed version of the Techno Song first premiered in the Techno Episode. There is a funny break in the song when “Strong Bad” has to take a break from all the sound effects. The neat thing about this song, is its all sampled from Matt Chapman’s vocal talent. Pretty impressive.
- StrongBadia National Anthem featuring Ms. Partsmatters 1st grade class
- The non-synthetic National Anthem, first featured in the Flag Day episode. There is a real kids choir behind StrongBad, and he plays off the background noise, rebuking the childrens. Very cute.
- Oh Yeah Yeah – Marzipan
- This one surprised me. The original was featured in the Marzipan episode. But this remixed version turns Marzipan and “Carol” into a chick punk-rock band. Very well done.
- Because its Midnite – Limozeen
- Another anticipated song from Strong Bad’s favorite fake band. This song was first featured in the Monster Truck episode. Now we get to hear the whole song! The Brothers Chaps sure do know how to parody 80′s hair rock.
- Circles – The Kinda Long Haired Band
- Originally from the Theme Party episode, this revamped version adds a second verse, and gives a more accoustic feel.
- Lets get started on doing all those awesome things I suggested
- This was a mistake on my part. I thought the sample from this song was the “E-mail Me Girl” bit. But this song SOUNDS like a mistake, but its actually a Comedic swerve. And you never hear the whole title of the song. “Let’s get Started…..[fall off]“ For being only 48 seconds long, it gets stuck in your head.
- Moving Very Slowly – Taranchula
- A surprise song. Taranchula (the band name) was introduced in the Band Names episode. Its a typical garage metal genre. And its Matt Chapman on lead vocals.
- Sweet Cuppin Cakes Theme Song
- Another surprise song. Sweet Cuppin Cakes was first introduced in the Crazy Cartoon episode. The song is exacly like something you would see on Nickelodean.
- I think I have a chance with this guy – WhatsHerFace
- As expected, there is a song with WhatsHerFace, from the Comic episode.
- Its like it was meant to be
- Another surprise song. This is clearly a Strong Bad Monster Ballad. Its a hillarious Minute and 5 seconds.
- NITE MAMAS – Limozeen
- Sensitive to Bees Marzipan (featuring Strong Bad)
- Another suprise. This is a pleasant tune, with Marzipan being her usual hippie self, and Strong Bad being his usual surley self. And Homestar makes an appearance. (Matt’s talent really comes out in this song).
- You’ve got an Ugly and Stupid Butt
- Hinted from the Strong Bad Sings short, this is a revisit to one of his more bitter tunes. Its only 32 seconds long, but it swings into a great calipso beat. Very unique.
- These peoples try to fade me – Coach Z
- Finally, we get to hear Coach Z’s top hit. I could have waited.
- The ladies in my Town all know my name
- Another title from the original Strong Bad Sings. The beat is very low end, almost like from Magnum PI.
- The theme from Dangeresque II – this thime it’s not Dangeresque I
- Originally conceived in the Stunt Double episode. Very 007-esque. Or is it Peter Gunn?
- Somebody Told Me (Now I Believe Them)
- A song that I was waiting for. I was disappointed. They Country-fied it! At least its only 47 seconds of annoyance. Still, very funny.
- The Cheat is not dead
- Another song I was waiting for. The Remastered “Cheat is not dead”, originally from the Caper episode. The song is much longer then the original. The second verse includes a Chior, with StrongBadian Harmony. The song finishes Southern Baptist Style. Easily my favorite track.
- Everybody to the Limit (Live)
- The live version of Strong Bad’s greatest hit. Live from West Rekjavik. The crowd is really into it too. The song has a feel that is belongs to the Philadelphia Funk Authority.
- The second Limozeen tune. This one is not as well done (there are some timing issues on percussion), but this is the mysterious song I could not identify in my Previous Post.
- There is also a “Secret Song” featuring the Homestar Runner
Additionally, there is a secret video (Made by The Cheat) if you use the CD in your CD-ROM drive on your computer.
Overall, the CD tracks could have been longer, but they are all funny in their own way, and worth the time to listen. It also shows the talent of Matt Chapman, and the other Homestarruner.com people.
I give it 3.5 stars.
