Where are the Carriers? :: March 7, 2005
The U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln comes back home, so its time for Jeremy-Gilby-dot-com to see where the mighty-mighty SuperCarriers are.
There are Five SuperCarriers in the Water, staffed and ready to go. Wanna guess who/what they are?
Sources:
The Current Active Carrier Deployment:
- USS Kitty Hawk:
- “Battle Cat” deployed from its forward deployed base to serve in the Philippine Sea, performing in its Winter Forward Deployment in the South Pacific.
USS Enterprise: Maintenance, Homeport: Norfolk
- “Big-E” began her ESRA earlier last month in the Newport News Shipyard. She will be in this state until Summer 2005.
USS John F. Kennedy: Post-Deployed – Homeport: Mayport, FL
- Currently “Big John” is turning her screws in the Atlantic. Looks like they will keep her active in this post deployed period. She recently had a Friends and Family Day. (I would kill to set foot on an active SuperCarrier.)
USS Nimitz: Training, Homeport: San Diego.
- The Nimitz is currently in basic training, in the Pacific. She will be in her Training Cycle until she re-deploys in 2006 where she is scheduled to cruise the West Pacific again. She is also ready in case of a need for another Carrier Strike group around the world.
USS Dwight D. Eisenhower: In Dock, Homeport: Norfolk
- “IKE” is getting prepped and her crew trained for her next deployment in 2005. Her Crew has been Certified. She is almost ready to return to the water and return to real basic training.
USS Carl Vinson:
- “Carl” deployed back in January to relieve the Lincoln in the South Pacific. She is currently visiting Singapore.
USS Teddy Roosevelt: Training, Homeport: Norfolk, VA
- The “Big Stick” is in the Atlantic, near Norfolk, assisting Ike in her crew training. She will be in sea trials to prep for her Mediteranean deployment in 2005, probably to releive Truman.
USS Abraham Lincoln: Post-Deployed – Homeport: Bremerton, WA
- MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
“Abe” returned from her Tsunami relief mission in the South China Sea, serving in her humanitarian aid role. What a fine role for a mighty-mighty SuperCarrier. She should be commended.
USS George Washington: Post-Deployed, Homeport: Norfolk, VA
- “George” is standing down from Surge readiness and probably going into a maintenance period for her next deployment.
USS John C. Stennis: Post-Deployed, Homeport: Kitsap WA
- The Stennis Changed her Homeport from San Diego (home to The Nimitz, and The Reagan) and moved up the coast to Washington, last month.
USS Harry S. Truman:
- The Truman is currently in the Persian Gulf, supporting opeations in Iraq.
USS Ronald Reagan: Post-Deployed, Homeport: San Diego
- The Gipper is in San Diego, getting prepped for her first major deployment in 2005 (probably to replace the Lincoln, or the Nimitz.)
USS George H.W. Bush: Construction Newport News, Virginia – Due to sea in 2009 to replace Kitty Hawk.
